((Operations Center - Deck 05 - USS Artemis-A))
Keeping yourself busy meant keeping yourself out of trouble. At least that’s what Charlotte was always told. The natural storm of chaos that brewed inside of the Betazoid generally made that a difficult solution. Her penchant for overly caffeinated drinks also didn’t help. That day she made the executive decision to skip her second espresso and head to the Operations Center to go over some what-if situations to help with emergency preparedness of the ship.
Charlotte sat quietly at the console running different simulations, checking systems during those simulations and taking notes on what areas could use improvement. It wasn’t much of a surprise to her that there really wasn't a lot of improvement needed. MacKenzie ran a tight ship, one that ran on efficiency and a little bit of terror.
From behind her a voice pulled her out of her focus.
Munro: Lt. Brexis?
She spun around with deliberate purpose.
Brexis: That depends… What did I do?
She smirked and caught sight of the pips on the woman's uniform. Her smile almost faltered as she began to connect the dots on who this person was standing in front of her. The dots connected themselves as she took the seat beside Charlotte and extended her arm.
Munro: Ava Munro, the First Officer.
Brexis: ::Reaching her hand out to accept the handshake:: I promise you’ve been on my list of people to come find. Time around here seems to pass by differently than anywhere else. ::lowering her voice and leaning in a bit conspiratorially:: I am starting to wonder if Captain MacKenzie is a temporal anomaly herself….
Munro: It’s okay, I understand.
Charlotte turned back around in her seat and made sure her notes were saved from the simulations. There was a feeling of something from the woman. Charlotte couldn’t quite place it, so she took the safe route with an apology.
Brexis: I know it’s a lame excuse. I should have come to find you sooner, sir.
Munro: I’ve been the new girl on a ship before. Got to figure out where all the cool lower deckers hang out :: pauses briefly :: Some friendly advice. Always get the senior officer check-ins out the way first ::conspiratorially :: That way they don’t get curious about you ::smiles deviously :: I’m curious, Lieutenant. Our new strategic operations officer? How are you settling in?
Charlotte tilted her head to the side and let the question settle before answering.
Brexis: Advice noted. Check-ins first. ::Lightly chuckling:: I guess I am settling in well enough. No one has shown any obvious disdain for my presence, so I think it’s going well.
Munro: Response
Charlotte propped her elbow on the edge of the console and set her chin on her hand.
Brexis: Yeah, I’ve met a good handful of the crew already. Lots of strong people and strong personalities around here. Aside from that, ::gesturing around vaguely:: I have been working on getting up to speed with the ship systems and departments.
Munro: Response
She let out a small breathy laugh.
Brexis: Now that is something I can get behind. ::Crossing one leg over the over:: Tell me more.
Munro: Response
