(( Operations Centre, Deck 5, USS Artemis-A ))

Bergmen: Of course, there is still some time, so please review and let me know your thoughts. ::smiles::

Lieutenant Bergmen felt a surge of excitement evident on his beaming face. At last, the new Chief has arrived, bringing someone capable of making decisions…

But COO Vailani did not share his excitement, which was visible on her face.

Vailani: Lieutenant, I'm going to need a use case and some evidence of how exactly this … refit will increase our efficiencies, communication and our distribution of resources throughout the ship. You have much of the data here but I don't see how it would translate to the Artemis? It's a large undertaking and I need to see how it's beneficial to our ship.

With those words, Lieutenant Vailani handed his PADD back to Bergmen.

Bergmen: But… But…

He had all the information there! His own review and proposals over the original project, reports from their sister ship Oumuamua, from Octavia Butler where FORT was already implemented and developed…and she didn’t even look!

But Begmen's attempt at resistance or explanation was met with indifference. As Ollie could tell, Lieutenant Vailani had already shifted her attention from his babbling about the data on the PADD as she stood up and began looking around the OPS Centre.

Vailani: I served on the Artemis before but it's been a while since I've had a proper look. You can share your ideas with me while we take a tour of the operations facilities?

Bergmen hugged his PADD protectively, took a deep breath, and attempted to restart his train of thought to be able to explain it to her... in his own words, so to speak.

Bergmen: I… Understood, ma’am.

Vailani nodded and moved forward. Ollie followed, step by step, nervous about where they were going. He was expecting the lieutenant to take him to her office, but then they missed the turn and continued forward.

oO Computer core, so be it… Oo

And a couple of steps later, Ollie was glad he was right when the door opened, and they stopped on the catwalk.

Vailani: It sounds like music.

Bergmen smiled briefly before his expression shifted to one of anticipation mixed with a hint of fear.

Bergmen: I heard it sounded even like a classical orchestra before it took a hit with an improvised grenade and a couple of shots…

Ollie noticed the reaction his comment had elicited and pulled his PADD closer to his chest, as it comforted him.

Bergmen: During the Frontier Day. I wasn’t on board then… :: shrugs shoulders:: But I heard a stories…

Vailani: Response

Bergmen: They patched it up after. A lot of things onboard are still waiting to be fully repaired, systems replaced. But if it ain't broke, don't fix it, and we will get full dock time soon anyway, so I heard.

Vailani: Response

Bergmen eased slightly as his shoulders sagged. Feeling nervous, he bit his lip, thinking he wasn't making any difference for his proposal.

Bergmen: So what would you like to hear about FORT? Ma’am?

Vailani: Response
