(( Operations Center, Deck 5 - USS Artemis-A ))

Lieutenant Bergmen could have easily chosen an address he thought would be appropriate for the name tag on the ensign's door, but he believed it would be better to let Meris decide. He smiled at the ensign and took a step aside to make space for them, leaving them personal space to make them comfortable.

Meris: Would that be all right?

Ollie nodded and reached around the ensign to confirm the entered text for the engraving. The machine immediately started working, filling the room with a humming sound as it engraved the letters and transformed them into words.

Bergmen: And now we need to wait about five minutes before it's done, and then we can go and change it, simple like that. ::smiles::

Meris: Thank you, Lieutenant Bergmen. I appreciate your willingness to be so ... accommodating.

Bergmen's face lit up with joy at the ensign's words, yet it was evident in his expression that he felt no gratitude was needed. He listened, he understood. He simply did his job. Was he glad to have made Meris's day a little better, even if it was just a little? Yes. But that was just how he was with everyone.

Bergmen: I’m just glad I could help. Let me say - I’m sorry - once again, for the fact that it was needed in the first place.

With a cheerful beep, the machine announced the start of the final phase of modifying the nameplate. It skillfully applied a delicate layer of clear varnish over the gleaming gold. As the timer hit zero, the workspace cover lifted, revealing the finished piece. The lieutenant carefully inspected the nameplate from different angles, a smile spreading across his face as he confirmed that it was absolutely perfect.

Bergmen: And now we can place it where it truly belongs. ::smiles::

Meris: You know, Lieutenant. You don't need to trouble yourself with helping me to install it. You've done so much already. I can take it from here. You should be enjoying your shore leave.

The lieutenant shrugged and smiled, glancing at the ensign to see if they had changed his mind. But it seemed the ensign didn't want to bother Ollie - and they didn't; help them install that nameplate; that was the smallest Ollie could do for them. - or maybe they wanted...privacy? The lieutenant neither knew nor wanted to pry or put the ensign in an uncomfortable position, so he simply extended his hand with the nameplate to them.

Bergmen: ::gives nameplate:: Here it is. ::smiles as ensign take it:: And…if you just wait…

Bergmen turned to the wall and opened the cabinet that concealed the OPS-marked case. The lieutenant took it out, placed it on a nearby table, opened it, and began to take out individual plates with equipment.

Bergmen: Yes, this… ::take from case a magnaspanner and turn back to Meris:: …You will need this. To change the plate, you know.

Meris: Response

Bergmen: ::smiling:: Don't worry about that, Ensign. Just deconstruct the tool and the old plate in the replicator in your quarters. And... if you need anything further in the future… Or just chitchat... You have a number. ::points to his combadge::

Meris: Response

Ollie nodded and then accompanied the ensign out of the Operations Center, just to take the opposite direction in the corridor. He waved goodbye to ensign and, without a glance back, he soon vanished around the corner, possibly headed off to tackle another task in the never-ending cycle of work that sooner or later trapped every Operations Officer of the USS Artemis…
