((Gare Saint-Lazare Transporter Hub, Paris, Earth))
Genkos just about managed to hold onto his lunch when they beamed into Paris. He hated being transported, but all the runabouts were busy with “important Frontier Day business”. It was enough to make you sick.
Mercifully however, he wasn’t… Sick.
He was very pale, and it took him a second or two to steady himself before following Jovenan off the pad. She had made her way to a small clearing in the forest of people, and Genkos leaned more heavily on the cane than usual to help clear the crowd. It paid to play it up occasionally.
Jovenan: Do you see an exit anywhere?
Genkos pulled himself to his full height, which meant he towered over many of the bobbing heads. He could see the Sortie indicator, followed by an arrow at the far end of the concourse. He pointed at it with the tip of his cane.
Adea: Thataway. Or at least, that general direction.
They walked past several small stores and cafés serving whichever needs a traveller may encounter, standing on the two sides of an open space spanning the three floors of the building, all the way to the underground metro station. Once they passed the first Sortie sign, there was not a second, which Genkos found frustrating. However, Jovenan eventually found a sign hanging from the ceiling: “Sortie – Exit. Cour de Rome – Rue Saint-Lazare.” She pointed it out to Genkos, and in the direction indicated by the sign, they found a way out to a small square.
As the first rays of the human sun touched his face, they both took deep breaths, and Genkos immediately wished he hadn’t. The smells of life, death, food and garbage tingled within one another, and some were more empowering than others. This was the city Ghant had been so obsessed over?
Jovenan: It’s so nice to be back on Earth. It’s been more than two years since I’ve been here. ::pause:: How long has it been for you?
Genkos paused - the last time he’d been to Earth had been about five years ago. If he remembered correctly, and he did, it was for Quinn’s wedding. He didn’t remember much of that evening, it having been one of heartbreak and loss, but he did remember the morning after.
Adea: Half a decade ago, the Gorkon stayed here. I visited Germany for a wedding but that was about it. Yourself?
Jovenan: I visited Paris a couple of times while in the Academy, but only briefly. And not once in the Palais.
Adea: Well so far, ::he wrinkled his nose again:: I’m not impressed.
Once again, Jovenan reviewed the message on the PADD she had with her. He’d noticed she was rather anxious about the whole thing - an invitation from one of the only other Edo in Starfleet. He had been quite flattered to be invited, but it made sense - an emotional support Betazoid. Nervously straightening her uniform, she checked yet again as if to verify the invite didn’t have further instructions but to use the main entrance.
Jovenan: D-do you happen to know what’s waiting ahead of us?
Adea: ::Dryly:: I imagine some security checks and then we’ll be shown to a meeting room.
Jovenan: Response
Adea: Jovenan, you are an exemplary officer, you have nothing to be nervous about. Your people, and by extension this official, should be very proud of you.

"You know, I'm really easy to get along with most of the time, but I don't like bullies and I don't like threats, and I don't like you, Culluh. You can try and stop us from getting to the truth but I promise you that if you do I will respond with all the 'unique technologies' at my command." - Kathryn Janeway
