((Underground River - The Raft - Callis I))
Ava had fallen clumsily, and she had passed out. Hunger, exhaustion, and fear had taken its toll on her body. It was pain that caused her to come back too.
They were on the raft. And there was chaos. The memories came back.
The escape pod.
The Things.
The Doctor!
When she tried to move towards them.
Silveira: In reply to your questions, we don’t know. To any of it.
She hadn't heard the question but she was glad to see that Silveira was paddling. And they appeared to be free from the Things for now.
For how long, she didn't know? That was a problem for later.
Breys: At least I'm not the only one who's lost here.
Munro: :: breathless :: Status report?
Imril: Response
Satisfied with the response from the engineer, she nodded. She removed her uniform jacket, the back of which was now torn with two strikes.
Silveira: I don’t like the look of that…
As she saw, the ensign scientist tended to Jaran. She figured a scientist was more useful than her. She’d spent her career fixing systems not people.
Ava threw the jacket to the side, and tried to look at the damage on her back.
Breys: I don't either. ::as she inspects the broken bone:: We need to try to set this sooner rather than later. I don't know all of your backgrounds, but I think I'm the most experienced in Bajoran anatomy. To do this right I'm going to need help from two of you though.
Ava came to the ensigns immediately.
Munro: Just tell me what you need me to do.
It was the first time she got to look at the leg, it was bent in a very odd angle. This was a major problem for them.
Imril: Response
Breys: I hate to do this while moving but I think I'd hate to do it on the shore more. I need someone to hold them still at the knee. I have to perform what's called closed reduction. I'm going to try to place all the fragments of their shin in the right places through the skin. ::she winces:: Also do we have anything they can bite on?
Ava stifled a wince and clenched her jaw as she moved down Jaran’s body to get into position. She placed both hands at the points indicated by the ensign.
Munro: :: swallows :: I'm ready :: to Jaranz gently whispers :: Don't worry, doc, we'll be as gentle as we can.
There was no response. Only beads of sweat on a forehead. Inside, she felt it. The shame, the fear and the anguish.
Except she wasn't able to show it. All she could do was hold it. To the others she stayed strong, she braced herself and remained calm. Her eyes met the ensign and then Imril's. She hoped it told them: “We can do this. We're Starfleet.”
Imril: Response
Breys: Ensign Jaran I don't know if you can hear me right now, but I know you know what I have to do. This is going to hurt a lot. I'm going to try to go steady, but not slow. You're going to be ok.
Imril: Response
The movement was made and the Bajoran remained unconscious, which was a mercy to them she was sure. Even unconsciously, their doctor was looking after them. She didn't know if she could beat their screams.
Breys: Alright, now I'm going to hold it here. ::looking at her first assistant:: I need you to keep the knee steady, and I need another pair of hands to start the splint. We all had to take basic first aid right?
Munro: Okay. I've got it.
Ava placed her hands to steady the knee, as directed. The pain in her own back was still burning and searing but it would have to wait.
Imril: Response
It was now done. Ava breathed a sigh of relief and leaned back. For the first time she looked around and saw the rocks had changed formation. There were stone walls now. They had entered some kind of unnatural area now.
Breys: Hopefully that's good enough. ::she looks at the stone walls around her for the first time since landing on the raft, and notices the type of rock has changed:: How long did that take? It seems like we're in a completely different area now.
The tactical officer nodded as he set the paddle at his side, letting the current take them.
Silveira: It does. And it’s getting wider.
Munro: I'm not sure that's a good thing. How is everyone? :: looks to Jaran :: Everyone else?
Imril: Response
Jaran: Looks like we made it. ::with a weak smile:: At least no one got hurt, eh?
Ava smiled at the doctor.
Silveira: Well done Ensign. Doc, glad you rejoined us.
Munro: I'm glad we got you out of that pod. Breys, that's your name right?
Imril/Breys: Response
Jaran: I know it's probably a silly question, but do we have any idea, any guess at all, where we are?
She could tell there was a joke coming when Silveira gave her a cocky smile.
Silveira: I am pretty sure it’s Callis I.
Munro: :: shrugs :: He's not wrong. We seem to be in some kind of underground estuary. We just don't know where it goes. Or what it's designed for.
Imril/Breys: Response
Vitor smiled and set the paddle back in the water as they rounded a corner and slowed down.
Jaran: ::pointing at the dock:: I guess we head toward that? And, umm, I may need a little help for a while…
Silveira: What do you think, Commander? Go back for our boys or find something?
Munro: We're not going back. I think we try and find somewhere to set up camp for the night. Let the doc rest up.
Imril/Breys/Jaran: Response
Silveira made his way, and therefore the raft, towards what appeared to be a ruined pier. Or what she imagined an alien pier would be.
Silveira: We have to be careful, there’s underwater wildlife here.
Munro: Food. Or danger. We need protein that's going to mean hunting or fishing. :: more to Imril :: We can make some traps? For the water?
Imril/Jaran/Breys: Response
Silveira: Someone will have to help the Doc.
As the raft banked up against ‘pier’ there was a little bit more sway. Ava grabbed the side.
Munro: Breys, do you mind helping the doc? You seem the most capable?
Imril/Jaran/Breys/Silveira: Response
Ava stood up, her back stung with each movement. She stepped from the raft onto the stone.
Munro: Careful, it's a bit slimy.
Imril/Jaran/Breys/Silveira: Response
Ava offered a hand to the doctor and helped them off the raft with assistance.
Munro: This seems as good a place as any. Let's secure the raft, and search the area. It would make me feel a whole lot better not to stumble on a nest of the Things.
Imril/Jaran/Breys/Silveira: Response
