(( Holodeck 4, Deck 3, USS Artemis-A ))

( Yvress Park Motel, New Annecy County, IL )

Bergmen: At least the ME Office is shared. ::sighs and smile:: So, since this will obviously be a joint task force by the end of the day - as you can see, detective, our part of the scene pointing by its cleanliness is a mere dumping ground and not the original crime scene. First on scene was our deputy at 8:36 AM, following the 911 call from the receptionist at 8:22 AM. ::turns page in notepad back:: The receptionist found the body in the pool in the morning during her morning rounds before the end of her shift, but as she testified, she saw the victim's clothes and belongings, along with the shadow in the pool already before midnight, when she went to refill the ice. But back then, she didn’t think much of it. (beat) Found at the scene were a towel, clothes - no blood marks - a wristwatch, a wallet with five Franklins, a driver's license, and two credit cards. So there goes the robbery theory. You?

Natasha flipped her note book open with a flick of the wrist to make a few additional notes.

Cole: Since robbery was unlikely a motive, and the body was beheaded I am curious at what the ME will be able to tell us. Such as why there was no blood at the crime scene. Even if they were decapitated elsewhere, there should be blood evidence with the body.

Bergmen: No, Cole, don’t say that word aloud or DEA will hear you and take this from our hands before we even can say "murder"...

Ollie appeared to be trying to stretch his neck past a nearby deputy at the parking lot.

Bergmen: C’mon, where is the old man? He should have been half an hour ago. God, help me if he took a wrong turn somewhere again… He will be my death one day…

She nodded and flipped through a few pages of her note pad.

Cole: After speaking with several guests of the motel, no one else saw anything or even heard anything alarming. A few complaints of couples ::checks notes:: conducting a headboard symphony. Outside of that nothing out of the ordinary.

She smirked because that was a much more tactful way of putting it then some of what the guests actually told her. She was pretty sure some of them had tried to make her blush in the way they described it.

Bergmen: Like, if anyone here ever stated anything useful, ever… ::glance around the pool:: Declare it as a cold case? No? Ok.

Cole: Anything like this come across NACSO’s desk before?

The young Constable shrugged his shoulders.

Bergmen: Not in my year as a Constable, nor anything seemingly similar in three year…

Whatever Ollie had tried to say was interrupted by an unfamiliar voice. Natasha looked over towards the source of the commotion, annoyed.

Davidson: Hey, men, do you see that jumpsuit? Suitcase? Badge? N-A-M-E-O. ::glance in direction of Ollie and Natasha:: Hey, any chance for a deputy around who can read?

The young man was wearing the correct uniform, but most certainly did not look the part. He must have been the regular ME’s assistant.

Bergmen: ::waves at Deputy:: Let him through.

The young ME exchanged a few glances with the deputy before lowering himself beneath the boundary tape. For a brief moment she wondered if she would need to step between them to prevent a physical altercation.

Davidson: Jay Davidson, ME. ::offers hand::

Bergmen: ::shakes a hand:: Constable Bergmen. ::gesture towards Cole:: Detective Cole, NAPD.

Natasha eyed the young man as he extended his hand. Long hair and a goatee favored by most teenagers that fancied themselves adults. He definitely had a look about him, and it didn’t scream Medical Examiner.

Cole: ::a single head nod:: Doc.

The ME shrugged and glanced toward the pool. His smile widened even more. Immediately, he stepped closer, putting his things away, before retrieving a pair of gloves.

Davidson: Ah, flotter. Ok, let’s go to fish the body out.

She tilted her head at that, was it common for ME’s to have a unique death. He reminded her of a younger version of the Mortician she had assisted a number of years back.

Natasha clocked Ollie’s look at her, she read it as ‘Is this guy for real?’ She shrugged as the ME moved the tarp next to the pool to place the body onto it. After a few moments Davidson gestured for the two of them to join him.

Davidson: Ok, this will be a little nut to crack. I can safely tell you now that I will not be determining the time and cause of death here, so you will have to wait for the autopsy.

Bergmen: So, what can you tell us, doctor?

Davidson pulled back the edge of the wrap foil in the area of the neck exposing the wound.

Davidson: Your unsub knew how, but lacked the experience. ::points to the cut:: It was done by some sharp, long blade, but as you can see, there is a notch on the spine. So they didn’t take it in a single stroke. ::glance from Bergmen to Cole:: It’s a sign of a lack of practical experience, as firstly, they lead with a stroke from the frontal side, and secondly, when they decide to strike frontally, they do not use enough strength.

Natasha noted that as Davidson moved on to the hands and picked up one to examine it.

Cole: So we’re looking for what… a true crime lover? What about the vic’s hands, can we get a proper ID?

Davidson: I would say it’s workable for prints. ::glance back to Cole:: And again, take a look. Unsub was clever enough to cut and clean the nails, and throw the body into the body of water, but then - they wrapped the body in a stretch foil before they disposed of the body. Yes, still, it’s chlorinated water, but that stretch foil probably saved a lot of what would otherwise have been lost…

Well that was something at least. Some possible evidence was better than none. Which was what they thought they had a few moments ago.

Ollie nodded and took the fingerprint scanner from the SID technician examining it. After a couple of beeps later, he  frowned. She didn’t like that, because it usually meant her shift just doubled in length.

Bergmen: Hmmm… ::shows screen with identification to Cole:: Not whom I would expect. Face sits with that driving license, but name… familiar, right? (beat) Just… I know that name from somewhere... You?

She furrowed her eyebrows. It didn’t ring a bell. She scribbled another note on her note pad.

Cole: ::frowning:: Unfortunately no. Does that confirm his address?

Bergmen: Response

Cole: ::slight smile:: We Constable, fancy a trip to the Victims residence. Might be the scene of the crime.

Bergmen: Response

She spun her keys with a mischievous grin. She was sure most people got worried when she had that grin, but she knew it would be fun. The keys  were for a 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T Hemi, whatever a Hemi was.

Cole: ::still spinning her keys:: Mind if I drive?

Bergmen: Response
