(( USS
Artemis, Deck 3, Holodeck 4 ))
Jaseb
was looking as Vitor lost his breath over the
proposals Jaseb prepared. Both tombstones gave soul and were
embodied by the late Mediator Jovenan, as Jaseb felt the emotional
stream from the Vitor, and as his Other's memories remembered her.
Silveira: They're beautiful.
Chevalier:
I know, Vitor. Both are Jovenan, the tree who grew in our hearts,
rooted in our souls...
Jaseb lost his words. He fell into silence
with words, but his mind didn't remain silent. The voice in his head
spoke the words of loss, the emotions of a dead machine. About desire
and understanding. About the impossibility of coming to terms with
one's own failure. About the pain of body and mind. About desire...to
end.
Silveira: Your description didn't do them justice.
oO
You would make her proud. You made me proud. You made him...proud...
Oo
Chevalier: I know. They...they came to me. They were just
there... to grasp them and materialize them. But... Only one is your
own, your embodiment of your feelings and your love. Your
reconciliation with her, your way to come to terms with the tragedy
that cut the thread of your future. Which one is it? Which
one did you choose?
Silveira: I like the simpler one. ::
Vitor pointed to it.:: I mean, I like them both, but that one is my
favourite.
Jaseb put his hand on the
lieutenant's shoulder and nodded. So, a decision was made. He smiled,
and deleted the other tombstone with a wave of his hand. Tombstone of
marble and granite disappeared, as if he was never here.
Chevalier:
It's
good choice. She would love it too. So,
then the last question we need to face. Do you want something to
change? Something to add or remove? Or can we proceed
forward?
Silveira: Response
Jaseb nodded a second time.
It will be a beautiful token of love. He saw it, he felt it. The last
piece fell into place as a jigsaw puzzle. Perfection was
achieved.
Chevalier: Good. We have it. This is it. Thank you,
Vitor. The stone will be ready in the morning the day after tomorrow. I
will make it a priority to be replicated, but some details I will want
to engrave by hand.
Jaseb sighed, as he let go of the
lieutenant's shoulder. Work needed to be done. Still a lot was
ahead.
Chevalier: So, if you excuse me, Vitor, I will start
now. Thank you for your input, ideas, and availability. Wait, just
one thing, where should we deliver a tombstone?
Silveira:
Response
Chevalier: Perfect. No problem delivering it there.
So the morning after tomorrow, it will be there...
Jaseb saved
the draft to the computer system and said his good bye to the
lieutenant, before he left the holodeck, not to sleep, to work. To
work on the masterpiece, on himself, on the foreign memories and
feelings, which ate him alive...
