((Grunden Base Camp, Kydon))
What a day it had already been. General Kexxin aggressively rubbed his face after getting word a few of his men had taken Major Oolwi of the Kobyar into custody. She had been seen “sneaking” around the village that had just been attacked. He hightailed it back to base to get the exact story of what had happened.
Normally it would have felt like a win, but considering all of the new information blasted in his face over the last few hours, anything was possible. Even he was questioning his position in the war.
After a short briefing from his men, he moved towards the holding cell.
Kexxin: I hope you haven’t been here too long.
Oolwi: Response
Kexxin: Care to explain what you were doing near our village that your people just attacked?
He tilted his head to the side and crossed his arms. No matter how much he had begun to sympathize with the slimy ones– there was a self imposed rule of not letting anyone see his softer side. It only ever led to being taken advantage of and he’d clearly done that enough with his own traitor of an Executive Officer.
Oolwi: Response
((Can backsim here if interested))
While their conversation was brief, he had no choice but to trust the Major. She had the capability of getting in touch with Starfleet. Something Kexxin couldn’t do with his systems all but obliterated and broken from the attacks taking out the signals.
They needed Starfleet now more than ever.
(( Transporter Room 1 – Deck 4, USS Artemis-A ))
He would be lying to himself if he wasn’t a bit excited to see the inside of a Starship. As they had made contact with the Artemis and waited to be beamed up, his tail began to sway side to side.
After the blue twinkle-tingle took them away and placed them gently onto the ship, his tail was going fast enough to tap Major Oolwi a few times.
Kexxin: ::To Oolwi:: Sorry… ::Stepping to the side:: That happens sometimes.
Oolwi: Response
A very kind looking redheaded woman walked up to them with a welcoming smile. Based on his quick observation, she must have been the Captain.
MacKenzie: Major. General. Welcome aboard the Artemis. Thank you for agreeing to meet on neutral territory – I believe you are both aware of the urgency we feel in pursuit of a resolution to the fighting, given recent events…
He gave her a firm nod.
Kexxin: Thank you. We are undeniably aware of the urgency.
Oolwi: Response
MacKenzie: Allow me to introduce my officers ::gesturing:: Ensing Cole with security, and Samantha Richards with sciences. They were both part of each of your teams conducting investigations on the surface.
Cole: General Kexxin it’s good to see you again. Major Oolwi, it’s an honor to meet you.
Richards: Hello again Major. ::waving slightly:: Nice to meet you General.
He returned the welcome with another nod to the two also red headed women.
Kexxin: I appreciate the help.
Oolwi: Response
The Captain gestured to the door.
MacKenzie: If you’ll follow me, we have much to discuss.
((Briefing Room – Deck 1, USS Artemis-A))
The short, but interesting journey to the new area was quiet, aside from the swishing of Kexxin’s tail as he took in how amazing the ship looked.
Soon enough, they were ushered into a room with a large table, with the Major and General sitting across from each other.
The very round and short Richards wasted no time getting down to business. Considering how large her stomach was, Kexxin wondered if she would go into labor right there in front of him.
Richards: ::To Oolwi:: Major. ::To Kexxin:: General. I think I can speak for all of us when I say we are deeply sorry for what is happening on your soil right now.
Kexxin: ::Scoffing a bit:: So are we.
His accidental harshness didn’t seem to phase the woman, thankfully.
Oolwi: Response
MacKenzie: Indeed. This is just another in a long line of tragedies that have taken countless lives of both your people over the years. I deeply hope that we can find a meaningful, lasting solution here.
Cole: Response
Richards: You both seem reasonable. I can assume there will be no need to bring in any extra security during this conversation?
His eyes drifted from Major Oolwi to the Captain before settling back on Richards.
Kexxin: No. There is no need for any of that. The Major and I have agreed this is to settle things for our people. We are not here to make it worse.
Oolwi/Cole: Response
At the head of the table, MacKenzie clasped her hands together and let them rest on the table and leaned forward. He respected the polite power-move.
MacKenzie: Major, General… I know that tensions have increased considerably with the bombing of the Kobyar capital. What probability do you think we have of trying to enact a ceasefire at this time?
Kexxin leaned back in his chair and shrugged.
Kexxin: They ignored the first ceasefire. I don’t know how trustworthy anyone is after the egregious display of war and weaponry while your people were planet side. We can try, but I can’t promise it won't end the same.
Oolwi/Richards/Cole: Response
With her arms raised and shaking her head, the Captain sat back in her chair.
MacKenzie: I’ll be honest, my teams are doing the best they can with the data and observations we were able to make from our limited time on the surface, but I’m not sure we have much to go on with what we’ve gathered so far… And I can’t in good faith send any of my officers in to conduct any further investigations unless the violence has stopped.
Kexxin: I expect nothing less from a leader. The safety of your crew comes first and foremost.
Oolwi/Richards/Cole: Response
The captain gestured to her officers.
MacKenzie: In the interest of collaboration and openness, I’d like each of my officers to share a brief synopsis of what they and their teams observed. Samantha was working on the investigation of Kobyar drone technology, and Ensign Cole was with the Grunden. Samantha would you like to go first?
Richards: Response
MacKenzie: And Ensign Cole?
Cole: Response
He listened intently as the two spoke of their findings and reports on those findings. Once they finished up, MacKenzie turned back to Kexxin and Oolwi.
MacKenzie: It’s still too early to tell, but I’d like to believe that neither side is responsible for what’s happening on your planet. At least, not directly, and certainly not a majority of either of your peoples. Do you have any thoughts on what our findings have shown so far, or information that might lend an aid to our investigations?
Kexxin hung his head low for a moment, vividly remembering Naru’s last moments.
Kexxin: I do…
He reached into his pocket and pulled out the small device he found on Naru.
Kexxin: My Executive Officer. He- he attacked me when we went to find some of your team. He warned me that we shouldn’t go any further into the underground facility Starfleet discovered. His mutiny led to his death. I discovered this on him. I don’t know if it will be helpful or not. Hell, I don’t even know how to turn it on. I’ve never seen anything like it before…
He slid the device towards the Captain.
MacKenzie/Oolwi/Cole/Richards: Response
He swallowed hard.
Kexxin: A traitor is a traitor, I did what had to be done and now I am more unsure of my people than ever before.
MacKenzie/Oolwi/Cole/Richards: Response
