Some days just don't go your way. A malfunctioning sonic shower in the morning. Aching back. The satisfaction of completing a report vanishes as soon as you send it off, replaced by a longer one. Plus, your stash of unreplicated coffee runs out, and you forget to pick up another at the last stop.
As Chief Ral gazed into her empty cup, illuminated by the dim light of the small lamp on her desk, she realized she needed a vacation. A week might sound as not so much, but she knew her below deckers enough to take a week off without having to return to a ship that was half-gone after the explosion, crash, or timeshift, all due to a below decker's brilliant idea.
oO Um, how about an extended weekend? Yes, I can afford an extended weekend. A fire or two onboard don't make this raport cycle longer. Oo
The Boatswain set down her empty cup and closed the tab filled with an endless list of new reports, requests, and ratings that she had been staring at all night. Risa's calling was too strong even for the grumpy, timeworn Chief Ral, so she opened a form to apply for her shore leave instead. As the shore leave request form appeared on the screen, another red notification followed in the corner, and the report requiring her immediate attention poop up.
Ral: Prophets, if this is yet another crew member's medical incapacity form due to an STD, I'll skip the captain and personally toss that sulik out of the airlock myself.
Her eyes began to run along the lines of the report, and as she delved deeper, the color of her face began to fade. This wasn’t good.
Ral: Jev ey.
Some days don't go your way, and today was one of those days. Looking into a report from Risa Security, Chief Ral realized that her extended weekend off at the shore was simply not happening.

Maybe she was just too busy with her own thoughts, or perhaps she just wasn't paying attention to where she was going. Her only luck was that the shadow of the person walking towards her was feet longer, giving her exactly the split second she needed to dodge to the side and not run into the person walking towards her. Her eyes lifted her gaze from the report she had been studying and turned back to the person she had just passed.
Ral: Hey, Goldie! Come here! ::pinpoint Tho'Bi with her gaze:: Yes, you. Come. Now.
Tho'Bi: Response
The Chief looked over the ensign from head to toe and nodded approvingly. He was perfect. Golden uniform, tall, Andorian, and if she worked him out enough… maybe her shore leave could still be up.
Ral: You will do. Good. Good. Senior Chief Ral. Ship’s boatswain. You are going with me, ensign…?
Tho'Bi: Response
Ral sighed and looked up. He was tall, but she was in the mood and had a mission now.
Ral: Don’t worry, ensign. I will clear this up with your boss later. Now follow me.
With her new shadow, Ral immediately headed for a nearby transporter room. The room's lights turned on upon their arrival, indicating that it was unmanned, but Ral knew this, and that was one of the reasons she chose this particular one. The Chief immediately went to the locker and pulled out a belt and handcuffs, which she handed to Tho'Bi, and then a phaser.
Ral: You are temporally reassigned to security, ensign. I need to pick up one bellow decker from detention and have no time to go through proper channels with ship security, so there goes You. Congratulation. Do you wanna be in holding of favor with me?
Even though it may have sounded like a question, the expression on Chief's face fell into the "offer-you-can't-refuse" category, especially with that fury in her eyes and phaser in her hand.

Chief nodded and handed over to Tho’Bi the phaser.
Ral: Good answer, ensign. Questions?
