(( South Bewa Mountainrange - Morta ))
All in all, their kidnapping plan had gone off without a hitch! D'tin hadn't even complained once when she'd arrived at the Transporter Room, and as another example why she was one of the good ones, she'd even heeded their order to dress for the occasion! (A task that they knew was hardly easy, given that they'd given no indication of what the 'occasion' was.)
This was something they were correcting now that they were safely on Morta, and D'tin would no longer be able to escape her fate.
K'Wara: I went to the Geological Reserve in the City with Doctor Jaran and Doctor Ikaixar a week or so ago. They had an exhibit called The Sun's Ascent', which was going to the peak of the mountain. We didn't go, 'cause we went in the middle of the day and it was scalding, but I thought to myself-
Breys: That a peak must be the perfect place to watch the sun rise?
Tamio grinned up at her.
K'Wara: Exactly! ::grins:: And who better to bring along than you, dear Ensign, before you turn into a Hydroponics-mole whose only source of D-vitamin are those horrid sunlamps?
Breys: I like the lamps! Besides, they’re more than good enough for the plants.
It was all a matter of waiting, they told themself. Given enough time, D'tin would hear how absolutely sad that sentence was, and as such, they just stood there, staring at her with narrow felinoid pupils, until the Ensign seemed to catch up.
Breys: But thank you, if the stars are any kind of indicator, I’m sure the sunrise will be beautiful.
Satisfied that their point was made, Tamio pointed forwards up the mountain path with their flashlight.
K’Wara: Come on, we'd best get a move on! Don't want to miss the chance to cross 'seeing the sunrise on a gas giant' out on your bingo card!
The pair started moving up the path, and while their flashlights easily illuminated the trail, Tamio realized that they had severely underestimated the luminescence of Morta's moon. Despite the thick and unwelcome methane atmosphere, the night sky's ambient lighting still managed to penetrate and dose their surroundings with an otherworldly shifting atmosphere. Seeing a static night sky from below a thick swirling cover of gas was definitely a new experience.
Breys: Gas giants aren’t known to support life often, the fact that anyone even knows how beautiful it is here is a miracle.
K’Wara: Who knows how many gas giants out there have primitive life on them that was just don't see?
They walked slowly, absorbed by the promise of untold landscapes and horizons just waiting up there, beyond the edges of the system.
Breys: I wonder if it would be worth it to take this kind of breathing apparatus to other planets, just to see a sky no one else would make the effort to. I’m sure your first thought as Chief of Ops is how much of a waste that would be.
K’Wara: ::scoffs:: Please, Chief K'Wara is left back in my quarters along with my uniform! You're currently stuck with a retired pilot and aspirational artist, and I think it's a capital idea... ::considers:: Only, where to? Got any gas giant hotspots you've always dreamed of diving into?
Breys: I don’t know. ::laughs:: Maybe we could ask Jovenan for help picking the right planet. I just feel like somewhere out there has to be worth that effort.
They were certain Jovenan would be one of the best people to ask for advice on that, though she was hardly the ideal accomplice in Tamio's Workaholism Prevention Taskforce (trademark pending). As far as Tamio as considered, Jovenan was almost as bad as D'tin, only saved by the fact that she'd had years to be dragged on excursions and misadventures by Vitor and select other Artemisians who knew what a good time was.
Though, perhaps this was an opportunity to kill two bids with one stone?
K’Wara: ::considers:: Pretty sure 'gas diving' can be considered a recreational sport of sorts...
Breys: Response
K'Wara: Beggars can't be choosers. ::looks up:: It really is impressive how much light manages to penetrate through that atmosphere...
Breys: Response
Tamio waggled their flashlight sternly at D'tin.
K'Wara: No science-talk! ::continues walking backwards while giving their sermon:: Marvel at the beauty of the the trail that we blaze or applaud me for my forward thinking and magnanimous spirit in bringing you here. Those are your optio-woah!
Lesson to all: watch where you're walking, especially while mountaineering. By some miracle, Tamio realized in the nick of time that the path that they'd been following suddenly - and quite abruptly - made a sharp turn, and before them was a sheer cliff face... Which would've had a lovely Cygnian indent into it, had Tamio not stopped.
Breys: Response?
K'Wara: ::grumbles before pointing down the turn with their flashlight:: That trail that we blaze.
Breys: Response
