((Brew Continuum, Deck 3, USS Artemis))
Jovenan wished she was more comfortable interacting with new people. It was difficult for her to maintain contact with new acquaintances or even old friends, so the ability to set aside shyness and reservedness would have greatly helped her in life. However, it was Richards’ comments on a silver lining that made her most regret her poor social graces. She had encountered a dozen new, fascinating people across the galaxy, but she had barely given them a thought after the catastrophe. If it wasn’t for Richards and her self-declared “affinity for crossing the galaxy just to say ‘thank you’”, Jovenan might have forgotten her eventually, as evidenced by her failing to recognize the Amity civilian scientist at first. Jovenan joked about it, but she still wanted to rectify her lack of contact somehow.
Jovenan: Would you mind relaying my thanks to everyone once you return to Amity? The people in our team on the Cube, at least, as well as the couple of officers who stayed with us on the Artemis, Commander Hopper and Lieutenant Ric… hards?
She stumbled a little with the name. Sam Richards, sitting in front of her and enjoying the drink and pastries, seemed to share the last name with Lieutenant Richards, the person who had helped them retake the ship despite the issues with his prosthetic arm. Or had Jovenan somehow mixed up his name? If not, it could signify that Sam and the Lieutenant may have some kind of familial relationship, although it could very well be a coincidence. Richards smirked and shook her head, while Jovenan gave her a questioning look.
S. Richards: I will pass along the thanks to them for you. Lieutenant Richards is an easy one, since he’s my brother. ::chuckling:: Commander Hopper is his girlfriend and my boss, so relaying the message will be an easy one.
Jovenan opened her mouth a little. Oh. That explained a few things she remembered questioning during the Battle, but more so, it made her wonder what it must be like to serve with one’s own siblings. None of her biological (half)siblings would likely want to serve on a starship, but she couldn’t stop thinking of the chaos and painful awkwardness that would result of introducing a bunch of her Edo relatives to the crew. Did Sam feel the same about her brother? Their family must have been very different from Jovenan’s.
Jovenan: Oh. Well, I assume you’ve already talked with Captain MacKenzie, but if there’s still time on your thank-you tour, you may want to visit Commander Dakora and Doctor Adea as well. They helped him and Hopper a lot, and vice versa. Or have you met them?
Along the ghosts of the drones lurking in the shadows in her mind, the memory of injured Commander Hopper kept resurfacing occasionally. It had been almost a miracle that Genkos had managed to save her, though she supposed one should never underestimate his medical abilities. And, of course, Talos and Lieutenant Richards had managed to clear the way through the Borg infested ship just the two of them before joining Jovenan and the others. Jovenan supposed that since Sam Richards was here thanking people, those two would be on the list, assuming she had cared of her brother and whatever humans called their sibling’s parters. Richards took a long sip of her drink; was she so enthusiastic to go express her gratitude to Genkos and Talos that she rushed their conversation, or was it something else?
S. Richards: ::Setting her drink back down:: I met with the Captain as soon as I arrived. I haven’t had much of a chance to talk with Doctor Adea, but I do hope I can at least pass along a thanks for keeping my boss alive. ::shifting her gaze and trying to find the right words:: Talos- I mean, Commander Dakora, we uh… We met a while after Frontier Day. We are kind of… seeing each other?
Seeing? Of course, they both had unimpaired sigh as far as she knew, and… Oh. Jovenan’s eyes widened on realisation.
Jovenan: Oh. OH. Sorry, I didn’t realise! Talos must have forgotten to mention that…
S. Richards: It’s still all pretty new and we haven’t really worked out the details, but I am pretty fond of him. Without speaking too much on your First Officer’s behalf… I’m inclined to believe he likes me too.
Jovenan smiled. She had never been in a relationship, so she didn’t know what it feels like, but what Richards described sounded lovely. And why wouldn’t they be a wonderful couple? By what Jovenan could see, Richards was an intelligent, brave, beautiful and kind, and she knew Talos well enough to say that they deserved each other.
Jovenan: Congratulations, then! Talos is a wonderful person.
S. Richards: ::Smiling:: He is pretty great. A bit of a goof too, but I find that to be one of his more endearing qualities.
Jovenan nodded a few times. She liked how some of her colleagues could be professional yet still behave silly occasionally. She didn’t always understand their humour, but it made her happy nonetheless. Of course, there was more to them, Talos as well, and Jovenan thought about how he had helped her after injuring her hands when a secretive mission had failed, or when they had had an awkward conversation at another Brew Continuum.
Jovenan: He is, but he can be caring and sensitive too. He must be very lucky to meet you, you seem a great person too!
S. Richards: Response
Jovenan: Have you known each other for long?
S. Richards: Response
Jovenan nodded. The pastries were running out, but she didn’t feel the urgency to get back to her work just yet. She could sit down for a moment longer.
Jovenan: So, how did you meet, then? ::waves hands sideways a few times:: You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to, I’m just curious, and I hadn’t heard any of this before.
S. Richards: Response
((OOC: Sorry about taking so long to respond, I got distracted.))
