((Kerrit Dromos Race Track - City One, Rylor))
While the race between Ava and Roy that was currently ongoing on the race track before them lacked a certain amount of excitement - owing to the fact that Ava had pulled into an early lead that seemed very difficult for Roy to clear - the universe saw fit to contribute with its own form of entertainment, in the form of a Rylorian animal of some kind (a sablecat, perhaps) who had decided to join the race in the second stretch.
The reactions to its presence were varied.
Vailani: Must be a friendly native species of some kind? Or someone's very excitable pet?
Imril: Is there a petting zoo around here that I don’t know about? One with really bad security?
Storm: If it is a pet, it needs to be kept on a leash.
That opinion surprised Tamio, as they’d never known Betazoids to have the opinion that anything should be kept on a leash. It was one of the things they always found particularly endearing about the very emotional culture of the Betazoids.
K'Wara: Nah, it looks harmless. Just wants to join in on the merriment. Adds to the charm of the place, if you ask me.
Granted, they hadn’t seen as much of Rylor as they wanted, yet, but they had no doubt they’d have plenty of opportunities to correct that.
Vailani: It's an unusual place. I can see why they chose to build a colony here. I might even use it for my next holo-programme.
Imril: ::Genuinely interested:: You write holos? What kind?
Both Tamio and Alex seemed to agree with that assessment, as they both turned with obvious interest at Lieutenant Vailani’s rare admission of having a personal life outside of being a paragon of duty.
Storm: That’s kinda cool.
Vailani: Oh it's nothing you would be interested in. Just a series of holo-walks. Boring :: points towards the track :: Look! What's he doing now?
oO A deflection if I’ve ever seen one. Oo
Nevertheless, Tamio wasn’t going to be the one to scare off the good Lieutenant after she volunteered personal information - truly, a once-in-a-lifetime happening - and instead, they focused on what she was directing their attention to.
Imril: Coming around the bend.
Storm: Come on, Roy!
The race was continuing, in spite of the excitement happening behind the two racers, and Tamio applauded eagerly.
K'Wara: Keep it up, Ava! You’re well in the lead!
Vailani: Response
Imril: ::Squinting:: I think he just said something.
Tamio looked back at the junior officer, a questioning look on their face. They’d come to trust Imril’s judgment on a lot of matters. This? This was something else.
Storm: Any idea what it was? I may be able to read minds, but I can’t read lips.
K'Wara: He’s more than a kilometer away from us, it’s a miracle that Imril was even able to clock him saying anything at all.
Vailani: Response
Imril: He’s not quitting. That’s for sure.
That was a fair assessment, but then, no one who joined Starfleet Academy were prone to quitting without finishing the given task, Tamio liked to think. Getting through the Academy was arduous, and uniquely suited to weed out those unable to see things through in spite of hardship.
Roy Bancroft - whose true name shall not be named - definitely seemed to fit the bill.
Storm: I don’t think it’s in his blood to quit. I think he’d finish even if he had to crawl across the finish line, and by the Five, that better not happen.
As though by clockwork, Garlonak piped up from somewhere behind them.
Garlonak: Two to one against Lieutenant Bancroft crawling across the finish line!
K'Wara: Hey, I like that! Get some more bets in! If Roy losing is a done deal, may as well make it a matter of whether it’s a close call or not.
Vailani: Response
Tamio grinned innocently, before another development happened down on the track.
Storm: Oh my! Look at this now. ::Gesturing to the supine man laying on the track.::
The purple sablecat, in its excitement about being included in the entertainment department of this event, had knocked over one of the excitable Ensigns who’d chosen to risk the good Commander Munro’s ire by hopping onto the track to try and get the cat away. A task they had failed remarkably at, and now, a good couple of people were trying to help drag the large domesticated animal off of the poor man receiving copious amounts of affection, while lying in the most obstructive way possible on the track.
K’Wara: The half-time show is almost as exciting as the race.
Where was the refreshments vendor when you needed them?
Vailani/Imril: Response
Storm: I’m not sure they’re going to be gone in time for Commander Munro to run that section of the track.
Well, if that was the case, there were other way to deal with this predicament:
K’Wara: ::makes a bellow with their hands:: Jump it, Ava! Long distance it!
Vailani/Imril: Response
Storm: I think Ro…ctor. Bancroft is gaining on her.
Considering that Alex had been yelling ‘Roy’ quite vigorously earlier, her sudden attempt at masking her clearly personal relation with the redheaded Doctor only made her seem more suspicious, and Tamio shook their head. See, this was exactly why it was easier just first-naming everyone but the ones likely to airlock you for it.
K’Wara: Indeed, the good ‘Roctor’ seems to finally be getting his engines warmed up. Come on, Roy, get up there! ::claps::
Vailani/Imril/Storm: Response
K’Wara: At least slightly closer would be preferable. ::to the group:: So Vailani’s a holoprogrammer, I’m a sculptor, Ava and Roy are obviously jocks. What about the two of you?
Imril/St0rm: Response
