S((Geology Lab - Science Center - USS Artemis-A))
The Commander nodded and indicated Sam’s very obvious pregnant belly. In turn Sam rested both hands on her bump and smiled.
Munro: My daughter was born on the Endeavour, and she's now in her first year at the Academy :: impish smile :: Where she was also conceived. She doesn’t like me telling people that. So, you know, I tell as many people as I can. That’s the true gift of motherhood, being a constant source of embarrassment to your children.
It was a bit surprising to hear the woman was a mother, but a welcome surprise. A small sense of kindred spirits. Even if the Commander’s daughter was an adult, maybe she would have some insight for the soon-to-be mom.
Richards: I’ll keep that in mind. ::Chuckling lightly:: If I’m still here when the twins are older, I will be sure to let everyone know they were conceived on the Artemis. In the– ::Stopping herself:: – On the ship. ::Beat then a smirk:: Maybe I won’t tell the Captain though. I don’t fancy the idea of getting up close and personal with the airlock.
She nodded and laughed awkwardly after quickly deciding that the new XO probably wasn’t interested in hearing that the twins were not only conceived on the ship– but in the XO’s quarters.
Some things are just better left unsaid.
Munro: The Captain does seem to have a reputation when it comes to the airlock, I’m just hoping it doesn’t extend beyond junior officers. Did I hear you right? Twins?
Richards: Twins, yeah. ::Rubbing up and down her bump and smiling:: They are actually a bit responsible for you being here. Their father was the XO you took over for. We are all really happy to have you.
There were still a handful of adjustments they were going through with Talos taking the Sixth House up on their request for him to be pretty hands on with his new Nobility responsibilities. In the end, it seemed they found themselves an excellent woman to step into the First Officer role.
Munro: I’ll try and live up to his reputation, he set a high bar.
It made Sam just a little bit sad that she never got to see Talos in XO action much. Perhaps some of the dare-devil stories she heard should make her more grateful that she hadn’t gotten to witness it first hand.
Richards: It’s been a bit of an adjustment for everyone I assume.
Munro: An adjustment is probably an understatement. But that’s the life of Starfleet - I just forgot how much could change. I was on Earth for several years before I joined the Ronin several months ago. Then I landed here.
Sam sympathized. When she first got comfortable on Amity, she never thought she would leave. Then out of nowhere she met a cute Betazoid boy and now she was pretty dang far away from the Delta Quadrant.
Richards: It can all change pretty quick. I’m still learning how to come to terms with that.
Munro: I guess it’s also the life of a Federation scientist? You go where you’re needed or the research takes you? I hope we have enough to interest you here.
Richards: Seems to be the life. ::Chuckling:: There has been plenty around here for me to do. Especially with all this cool stuff from the others on 224. I made some connections with a few other planetary scientists.
It was something that was always taught to her at MSU, make connections. You never know what they could lead to. That seemed to be true about a lot of things. Not just science.
Munro: We’ll need to make some detours to some interesting planets.
Richards: That would be really cool! In the meantime I will just ask to take samples from wherever we land.
Hopefully the next time she has that opportunity it would be on a less war-torn planet and her pocket to have less cheezy-poof dust to contaminate any samples she gets.
Munro: I’ve taken up enough of your time, Sam. Thank you, I’ve really enjoyed our chat. I hope we can meet up for lunch or dinner and have a proper talk sometime.
Sam nodded and smiled at the woman.
Richards: No worries at all. Thanks for stopping by. Anytime you want to get together just let me know. ::Rubbing her bump:: We can always eat.
