Jaran: You do have some elevated levels of hydroxyapatite in your bloodstream. It's unlikely to really cause any issues, but I have to ask. Have you been noticing any discomfort in your joints?
Munro: Doctor there must be something wrong. I feel fine. My muscles work perfectly.
Jira watched Munro try to prove her statement by bending her elbow. The pained expression on her face told them the truth of the matter, however.
Jaran: Perfectly, you say?
Munro: It's nothing. Just age. The usual wear and tear.
Jaran: That may well be the case. But don't you think we ought to make sure?
Munro's face fell.
Munro: :: resigned :: If you insist. This hydro - thing - it isn't serious is it? :: gravely :: it's not going to affect my running? I've challenged Doctor Bancroft to a race and I fully intend to win.
Jaran: I'm certain you'll be up and running in no time. Can I have you lie down on the biobed please?
That was a bit of a nothing answer, but honestly Jira wasn't sure how to answer just yet. Without a full scan, there was no way of knowing if this was just the normal ebb and flow of the body, or if they actually had a problem.
Munro: Response
The biobed responded to Jira's taps, and the scanner slid into place, pushing a small rock as it moved out of its hiding place.

A few more taps, and the scan began.
Jaran: I'm looking to see if this hydroxyapatite has built up in your joints. It's a mineral that is part of what makes up your bones, and it really shouldn't be in your joints, but it does happen sometimes. Have you been noticing any other joint tenderness?
Munro: Response
The scan finished, and Jira looked at the screen. Yeah, there they were: crystals forming near the joints.
Munro: See here? These little... clumps? ::pointing at the screen:: This is a buildup of hydroxyapatite crystals in your cartilage. Thankfully, you're here during the calcific stage, and it's a pretty easy matter of breaking them up.
