Tamio smiled at the Ensign when she arrived in the Transporter Room. They could always rely on D'tin performing according to the brief, and while they had had a whole sermon prepared just in case D'tin chose to show up in her uniform, they weren't disappointed that she didn't. She'd dressed quite sensibly for Mortan weather, and Tamio nodded with approval, and a wide smile, after a quick inspection.
K'Wara: You made it! Just in time!
Obviously, the lack of instructions on what their little outing entailed did mean that D'tin hardly wore appropriate footwear for the occasion - an experience Tamio knew all too well - but thankfully, she had a magnanimous senior officer with the talent of forethought to look out for her! Specifically, the forethought to replicate an extra pair of hiking boots, which they now held out to the young Ensign.
Breys: Uhm. Thank you? Should I put these on?
K’Wara: ::sly grin:: Well, that was the idea.
She accepted the boots without complaint, though she still looked confused.
Breys: I still don’t know what I made it for, are we going hiking?
K’Wara: Hiking, probably a bit climbing.
Breys: New question, where are we hiking?
Tamio wasn't trying to be a smart aleck - it generally didn't suit their idea of a good time - but the response was out faster than they could think to stop it.
K’Wara: On Morta.
They did their utmost to apply the most innocent expression possible when D'tin finished tying her shoelaces and looked back up at them.
Breys: Well, Morta has to have some interesting flora. right?
K’Wara: Probably not where we're going, but I admire the consistency.

Morta was a strange planet. Methane-based climates that still allowed the development of sentient life was strange enough already, and the way the gaseous air around them conducted heat was both impressive and intensely distressing. Thus far, Tamio had only seen Morta in the light of day. Seeing Morta in the late hours of the night, however, was a different experience entirely. The temperature was still very warm - they doubted anything could cool down this planet's particular climate - but it didn't feel like they were being baked this time. Just for that, Tamio decided that night-time Morta was a definite improvement.
The duo had beamed down halfway up a mountain near a small rest stop designated for hikers, with a metal structure containing bathrooms and a couple of small seating areas for the errant hikers to relax on the route up. As far as D'tin's earnest wish to see flora though... Morta was a world of metal and rock, with very few locations able to prevent water from evaporating in the warm climate, and as a result, Tamio could see absolutely no sign of greenery in the vicinity.
K'Wara: All right! ::claps:: Our destination is the mountaintop! ::rummages through their supplies and produces electric torches and a single phaser:: Here, one torch for you. Torch and phaser for me.
They doubted a phaser would be strictly necessary, but the Bewa City Tourism Authority had made it abundantly clear that going into what wilderness remained on Morta - which, admittedly, wasn't a lot - equalled taking charge of their own security.

K'Wara: I went to the Geological Reserve in the City with Doctor Jaran and Doctor Ikaixar a week or so ago. They had an exhibit called The Sun's Ascent', which was going to the peak of the mountain. We didn't go, 'cause we went in the middle of the day and it was scalding, but I thought to myself-

K'Wara: Exactly! ::grins:: And who better to bring along than you, dear Ensign, before you turn into a Hydroponics-mole whose only source of D-vitamin are those horrid sunlamps?
