(( Bridge - Deck 1, USS Artemis))
Somehow Breys had been called for bridge duty. She expected to spend the majority of her voyage managing the arboretum and analyzing samples for Jovenan. For the smallest moment D’tin was several feet from the captain.
As Breys bounced from one foot to the other, she looked up from her console to the woman in the captain’s chair of the Artemis. Addison Mackenzie was a terrifying presence. The group’s joint effort for survival had left Breys overly comfortable, and she just hoped the captain didn’t hold her in too sour a light for that.
It was a quiet day. Mackenzie was thumbing through documentation and there was little to do but monitor sensors. Stepping away from the station for a moment to speak to another officer would be normal. Right?
Breys: ::at first quietly:: uh… ::more confidently:: Fleet Captain Addison Mackenzie, sir!
Was that laying it on too thick?
Mackenzie: Response
She came forward.
The room suddenly felt suffocatingly hot.
Breys: I-I Just wanted to introduce myself professionally, and say I’m excited to be on board! I was thrilled when I was assigned to the Artemis, and I’m happy I made it off the planet to actually see her.
Mackenzie: Response
At this point Breys was sweating bullets, and must have looked pale. The Things might have been preferable to this moment.
Breys: I’m your new science officer, Ensign D’tin Breys. I’m a botanist with a focus in herbology. I went to school for herbalism on Bajor before joining Starfleet. I hope I can be of help to the crew!
Compared to her imagination this was somehow both better than expected, and worse in every way imaginable.
Mackenzie: Response
