Silveira: Anyway, where were we?

After briefing the new Ensigns of the current status of the mission, there was an opening for Jovenan to guide them back to the correct course and to the point where they had left it.

Jovenan: Well, it seems the Da’al have some telekinetic capabilities, which could be reacting with the dust molecules…

Her explanation of her most recent findings was interrupted by the internal comms.

ch’Thorlles: =/\= Bridge to sickbay. Sickbay, are any of the senior officers there available? =/\=

Adea: =/\= This is Adea, go ahead =/\=

Jovenan wasn’t so certain if the Commander should be allowed to return to his duties or issue commands so soon after being brought back from murderous rage. She followed his words closely in case he ordered the Bridge, for example, beam any of them out or send a security team to eliminate them. Then again, they might notice such an order even without her intensively staring at his mouth moving.

ch’Thorlles: =/\= Sir, we have detected an explosion on Ensign Jones' and Lieutenant Yellir's location. =/\=

She quickly put her hands over her mouth. Lt Silveira moved slightly on his biobed, but the others seemed unfazed. Maybe they didn’t react as strongly to the news or simply hid their emotions better, but Jovenan was shocked to hear that the two officers might be injured or dead.

Adea: Alrighty-ru… Get a lock on them and beam them up if you can. Otherwise contact the Captain and let her know.

The commlink was severed and the Commander turned back to them. No evident rageous betrayals this time.

Adea: Okay, so it looks like the lexorin was a temporary fix, but before you release me… any ideas for a more permanent fix?

Morgan: I wonder if there’s a way we can counteract the gallium… Perhaps synthesize an antidote that works similarly to the Lexorin, but targeted specifically to the gallium?

Jovenan frowned a little. They were moving from her field to the medicine. She had taken some biology courses, but she had little knowledge in actually treating people. This was far from putting bandages or checking cuts which were what she had expected doing on the surface.

Savel: Are we sure the effects will still be present now that the Commander has been on the ship, presumably away from the compound that contributed to the aggressive behavior?

She smiled at the Ensign’s suggestion. She had had the same hypothesis before the Commander had thrusted a sword through Lt Silveira. Then again, it might still hold, just not as fast or independently she had hoped for.

Silveira: The Commander did deceived us earlier

Jovenan: Yes. The compound did dissipate when we arrived to the ship, as it was only hold together by the Da’al telepathic energy, I believe. But the symptoms didn’t disappear. Sure, it’s possible that they won’t return, but… uh… it’s also possible they will.

What a great no-answer answer.

Adea: Response

Morgan: Surely Doctor Jones is familiar with what’s happening – I wonder if he’s had a chance to take readings or formulate hypothesis?

Silveira: I bet they are.

Jovenan: ::mumbling:: If they survived the explosion…

She had tried work through the dismay that the news of the explosion had brought to her. Ensign Jones had been a friend to her; she had very much enjoyed working with him, showing him the astrometrics in null gravity on the Excalibur, and chatting with him. She had hoped she could spend some more time with him after the mission, but all those hopes could be rendered lost by a single, pointless explosion. She hoped for his survival, but she couldn’t get the image of his dead body off her head…

And Lt Yellir was there too.

Adea: Response

Morgan: Are there any readings on the explosion near Yellir and Jones that might lend us some clues? My gut tells me there might be some answers that could help us.

Silveira: Maybe it’s their efforts to deliver a cure.

Ensign Savel was the first to move to the computer interface. Jovenan wasn’t sure if the newbies had told their fields yet – maybe she should have listened more carefully – but he might actually have expertise in determining the source of explosion.

Savel: The ship did not detect any weapon's fire in relation to that explosion. I do not believe it was the result of a hostile attack. It is more consistent with a vehicle or craft having detonated, though I cannot determine a cause from here.

So, they happened to be near a damaged vehicle that exploded on them? Was that supposed to be any better reason to die!?

Adea/Morgan: Response

There was a chirp of a combadge. She could easily recognize the voice of the speaker. Had the bridge had all the remaining officer on the surface beamed back in? Ensign Jones nor Lt Yellir had been beamed to the sickbay, so maybe they had survived without injuries. Or maybe their bodies were so utterly destroyed they couldn’t transport anything of them…

MacKenzie: =/\= MacKenzie to Ensigns Kader and Savel. Report to the transporter room. =/\=

Jovenan: ::to the new Ensigns:: Well, it was nice meeting you. I hope we’ll meet again someday!

Adea/Savel/Morgan: Response

Kader: =/\= This is Kader, on our way =/\= oO Oh thank you MacKenzie, whoever you are Oo Let's go Savel, I think I saw a transporter room on my way here.

Savel: Response

The two young ensigns left, leaving Jovenan with her two teammates and the Doctor. It didn’t take long when the door opened again, letting in new people. Jovenan’s eyes widened in alarm as she awkwardly assumed attention at the sight of the Captain. She might have had some standing with the two younger ensigns that had just left and with her two teammates she had worked to keep alive and who were in a deep mess themselves. But the Captain? Commander MacKenzie had a reputation, and Jovenan was about to learn how much of it was true.

The Captain walked to the middle of the room and went back and forth pointing Commander Adea and Lt Silveira.

MacKenzie: You didn’t kill each other?

Silveira: We are on the same team. Besides, I can't kill my senior officers.

Adea: Response

MacKenzie: Good. That will give me the opportunity to do it when this is over…

The Captain clasped her hands. Jovenan flinched slightly but otherwise kept the stiff posture.

MacKenzie: Who wants to start?

Silveira: Junior officer prerogative. Let me start by saying that Commander Adea wasn’t fully responsible for his actions, and that Ensign Jovenan performed remarkably well.

Please don’t talk of me. I’d prefer to be unnoticed and saved from what is to come.

Adea: Response

Silveira: We managed to unload some of the cargo. The Commander did mention he was feeling something, when we started to be surrounded by a crowd of survivors. I believed it was normal given the circumstances so I didn’t quite fully understand there was something wrong until you reached me Captain.

MacKenzie/Adea/Morgan: Response

Silveira: To my regret I failed to prevent Commander Adea from striking our contact, Miss Kleebohn. I jumped to secure the Commander, but in doing so I dropped my phaser, which Miss Kleebohn managed to obtain. Ensign Jovenan reacted quickly and beamed us back and Commander Adea… Hit me.

Don’t look at me, don’t look at me…

MacKenzie/Adea: Response

Jovenan gulped.

Jovenan: ::nervously:: T-then I contained the Commander behind a force field until the security team could shoot – STUN! – stun him and take him here, s-sir Captain sir!

Morgan: Response

Silveira: I will say again that the Commander wasn’t in due control of himself. If there is any fault or blame to be given it should be to me, who wasn’t able to prevent what happened, nor was able to secure the Commander safely.

MacKenzie/Adea/Morgan: Response

Others coming to sickbay: Response?
