((Deck 3, USS Artemis))
Sam was feeling a bit better about finally getting a chance to talk with Jovenan. There were vivid memories of the moments they spent together on the Cube. The terror and fear on the faces around them. The anger that was felt as they all fought to keep each other safe.
S. Richards: I was just grabbing some coffee, do you have a couple minutes to talk? I know you probably think this seems crazy, and you’d probably be right, but I’d like to talk to you about that day… if that’s okay?
She sipped on her iced coffee almost out of nerves instead of actual thirst.
Jovenan: Yes, of course. Um, I do have to get to my shift on the bridge after my dinner break is over, but I can talk for a while.
S. Richards: Thank you. I promise I won’t take up too much of your time. ::Looking around:: Where would you like to go to talk?
The woman looked around before looking at Sam’s coffee.
Jovenan: We could, uh, go to the cafe. I could have a drink as well and maybe something to eat, so I don’t have to worry about making it to my shift, if that’s okay.
S. Richards: Yeah, absolutely!
There was a grateful smile on Sam’s face as she led them back into the Brew Continuum. She was happy to finally be able to give out the thanks that was deserved.
Jovenan ordered her drink and some pastries while Sam picked out a table for them.
Jovenan: I’m really sorry I didn’t recognize you at first, I didn’t expect to see you here. How come you are here anyway?
S. Richards: No it’s okay. We have all dealt with what we went through in different ways, some by blocking it out and some by facing it head on. ::shrugging:: I’ve done a bit of both. Which is why I am here. I felt like I couldn’t fully heal until I saw the people I was there with. I had to say thank you to the ones that helped keep me alive. You are one of those people.
The fellow scientist smiled at Sam and gestured for her to take one of the pastries brought to their table.
Jovenan: And what happened to you and the others once we parted ways? You must have been on the Kitty Hawk, right?
S. Richards: Yeah, that’s where I was when the signal went out… A lot of us were assimilated. A lot of bad stuff happened after that. I uh, hope you don’t mind if I ask. Were you… affected by the signal?
It wasn’t a question she was sure if it was okay to ask, but considering what they went through, maybe they could commiserate together more than they already did.
Jovenan: Response
S. Richards: I’m really glad you didn’t have to go through that, ::picking at a pastry:: but don’t let that discredit what you did go through. That day was hell for everyone.
Jovenan: Response
Continuing to pick at the pastry, Sam looked up at Jovenan.
S. Richards: Despite everything we all went through. I think I made some really good friends along the way… A small silver lining I guess.
Jovenan: Response
