((Ready Room - Deck 1 - USS Artemis-A))
Luirétt had been given Ava’s combadge and was currently speaking with their compatriot Vahljean who was receiving treatment in the improvised triage area.
Munro: :: to Storm :: Are you okay, Lieutenant? I seen that you were slightly … disturbed earlier?
Ava waited for Storm to gather her thoughts and as she looked behind her shoulder to ensure that Luirétt was otherwise preoccupied.
Storm: Oh. You mean when I shook their hand? It was completely unsettling.
Munro: So when you touch them, you feel something? Or you see something?
Storm: I know that they say that they have the ability to calm the others, but when I took their hand, it felt like every person I ever knew or met was shouting at me at the same time. The sensation was completely … disorienting.
Ava was reminded of the unusual gesture that Luirétt had done upon greeting them. Perhaps they communicated via touch. Hadn’t Luirétt spoken of their position in society, and that they healed and soothed Boraxians?
Munro: Could this be related to the abilities that they mentioned earlier?
Meris: Abilities?
Storm: It’s possible. Being Betazoid and having completely different physiology than they do, it is possible that the Yurum’s ability to calm the other Boraxians has the opposite effect on Betazoid physiology.
Ava nodded towards Storm.
Munro: We’ll need to issue an alert to all touch telepaths and empaths on the crew. No skin to skin contact.
When the comcall ended Luirétt rejoined the Starfleet officers.
Meris: ::haltingly:: I-I do hope your friend is okay. I'm sure our Doctor's are doing all they can to help your people.
Luirétt offered Ensign Meris a genuine smile as they returned the delta to Ava. She returned the badge to her chest again.
Luirétt: Thank you, Ensign Meris. Vahljeahn is my most stalwart support and dearest friend. If anyone will pull through, it is them.
Not for the first time, and certainly not for the last she was left wondering about the life they had led back on the nomadic city ship that was home to the majority of Boraxians.
Storm: That has to be a comfort.
Meris: Response
Luirétt: In response to your question from before, Lieutenant Storm, I do not know why the Boraxians are acting as they do... While we have abilities that let us soothe the minds and emotions of others, we are not beholden to their thoughts, and the Matriarchy’s actions are unprecedented. There has, after all, not been an attempt at Yurum Liberation in the modern history of our people. This is as new to them as it is to us, and I imagine there’s quite an uproar on our Cityships.
If these words were true Ava had to consider this uproar may be more significant than Luirétt may have indicated, given how they downplayed the condition of their ship at first. What would happen once they caught up with the Yurum?
She knew that the Boraxians were strong allies of the Klingon, significant given their location in the Borderlands. Would they bring the Klingons into this dispute to retrieve the Yurum? Could these seemingly naive people ignite a new conflict between the Federation and the Klingons… after Frontier Day she knew what that may mean for them.
Storm: I can imagine that there is a lot of confusion going on right about now.
Munro: When you mentioned uproar what did you mean by this?
Meris: Response
Luirétt: Their decision to shoot on our vessel and thus, even if only minorly, expose us to potential harm is likely to have met backlash from the general populace. It is possible that their delay is due to them having to deal with that.
Ava nodded, her hand instinctively going to her chin as she began to weigh up her options.
Storm: Thank you for answering my questions.
Meris: Response
Storm: I understand that this whole ordeal must be taxing on you.
Meris/Luirétt: Response
When the tactical officer turned to her and spoke in serious low tones, she voiced Ava’s own concerns.
Storm: We have an unknown ship out there that is gunning for the Yurum. It is likely that the Boraxians will come back.
Munro: I think its safe to say they won’t be taking no for an answer.
Meris/Luirétt: Response
Storm: And they may not come back alone. We don’t know how they will react if they see us standing between them and their prize. Captain, I recommend taking the ship to yellow alert.
Ava looked to the tactical officer curiously.
Munro: Lieutenant, the ship is already in yellow alert?
Is it possible the touch has affected her more than first thought?
Storm: Response
Ava would have to take that for reassurance but this was something she would be watching carefully.
Meris/Luirétt: Response
Munro: Luirétt would you join us on the Bridge? I think your input might be valuable as we try to locate your people :: she raised her hand :: Not to return you, it is not our way to do that but we know they will be coming and I’d like to know when that will be.
Storm/Meris/Luirétt: Response
Ava guided them out of the ready room and onto the bridge.

As she strode forward she began to issue orders, the ticking clock had begun to run down.
Munro: Ensign Meris, can you work with Luirétt at the mission ops station. Use the data from the sensor pods, I want an ETA on the potential Boraxian arrival. Lt Storm, issue that warning to all the telepaths and empaths on the crew and get me a status update from our away teams.
Storm/Meris/Luirétt: Response
