(( Primary Sickbay - Deck 7, USS Artemis-A))
Even though it was clear Doctor Sadar was as uncomfortable and anxious as it was possible to be, Sam had to admit, the Mizarian was a great doctor. Sam and Talos both asked if they could take a look at their little beans again, to which the doctor obliged.
As she settled her eyes on the two little beings she began to feel her emotions building.
S. Richards: It still doesn’t quite feel real does it Talos? ::squeezing his hand:: We’re going to be parents.
The two of them stared at the image on the screen, the little vaguely human shaped blobs bouncing around.
Talos gave her a nod before looking down at their hands that were still entangled together.
Dakora: We are. I just hope I can figure out how to be a good one…
His statement was what finally made her pull her eyes away from the screen and look up at him.
S. Richards: For what it’s worth… I think you’re going to be a great dad.
Talos patted Sam on the shoulder, she leaned into his touch before looking back to the display.
Dakora: We probably shouldn’t take up too much more of Doctor Sadar’s time. Genkos runs a tight sickbay. ::He flashed Gila a wry grin.:: Was there anything else, Doctor?
Sadar: Uhh… D-Dr. Rani’s notes don’t say whether she’s offered you to know their birth genders? W-Would you like to know?
Dakora: Uh… ::He shrugged, looking to Sam for approval.:: I think I’d like to know. How about you?
S. Richards: ::Giving a small enthusiastic nod:: I really do.
Gila nodded slowly before turning the display towards them, Sam began to feel the excitement bubbling up within her.
Sadar: W-Well, this one ::indicated fetus A:: will be born female, and this one ::indicated fetus B:: will be born male. Fraternal twins.
The two soon-to-be parents shared a moment of happiness, Talos clapping his hands and grinning while Sam sat with wide eyes and an ever wider smile.
Of course there were so many unknowns and hurdles they would face together, but learning more about who their babies were made everything feel that much more real.
Dakora: Holy Strokes! One of each!
Seeing how happy he was gave her an undeniable comfort. Though the comfort did not negate her curiosity.
S. Richards: ::Looking at Gila:: Do you know if one will be more human or more Betazoid than the other? How does that even work?
Sadar: Unfortunately, we still haven’t found a reliable science to determine how the hybrid nature of interspecies offs- babies, will manifest, so that much is difficult to say at this stage.
Dakora: With your brains:: He pointed to Sam, then himself.:: And my… well— uh…– Oh who cares. They’re gonna be great.
Sam reached up with her free hand and placed it on his cheek.
S. Richards: Aww, honey. As long as they get their good looks from you we won’t have to worry.
After giving Talos a teasing wink, he helped Sam off the biobed.
Dakora: Come on, I’ll walk you home so you can relax.
S. Richards: ::Hugging his arm:: Thank you. Let’s go baby daddy.
Talos turned to Gila with a grateful smile.
Dakora: Thank you, Gila.
The two walked out of sickbay and headed back to his quarters. There was a relief, not only for the babies being okay, but that they finally had a moment together where they weren’t focused on the what-ifs and the unknowns. Instead they were able to celebrate something special. Knowing they would soon have a little boy and a little girl.
