(( Elysium – Main Lounge, Deck 6 – USS Artemis-A ))

The foreground outside of the Elysium’s windows was a busy traffic flow of workbees, DOTs, and exosuited crewmen all moving about in orderly ways in the course of repairing or replacing sections of outer hull plating. Which meant a lot of squarish sections of metal being hauled across the lanes, leaving only a partial view of the starbase beyond.

Bergmen: Hummus, mango flavor, two pita breads. Drink - flat white, three sugars. ::glances to Imril:: And for you?

Imril: ::Speaking to the replicator:: Raktajino, iced, and… a papalla-berry muffin.

Imril usually ordered their Klingon coffee double-sweet. But on top of the other activities on their various plates, they had been slowly expanding their Klingon vocabulary. Might as well try the ‘real thing’ as part of that education.

The officers found a place to sit together and settled down to their refreshments.

One sip of the unsweetened drink informed Imril why they usually ordered it the way they did. They suppressed a wince, and took another sip. It was still good stuff, the nutty flavoring still shining through, and it certainly did coffee’s job of jolting them up a bit. Quite by accident, the bitter mixture paired well with the muffin; the lavender berries embedded within had sweetness to spare.

Bergmen: So, it will soon be one year with us, if I am right? How do you like it so far? Life in the Starfleet. Artemis…

Imril: ::Nodding:: Yeah, I’m coming up on my one-year-anniversary as an officer. Wow. I can’t say it’s all been fun, because it hasn’t. But the hard times have mostly ended in someone getting the help they needed, and that’s something I can be proud to have been part of. ::Looking around the lounge:: I like it here, on the Artemis. I’ve learned a lot. Accomplished a lot. Bettered myself, I think, or at least I’m on a path to it. And his ship certainly keeps me busy. ::Looking outside at all of the construction work:: Especially lately.

There had been a lot of scuttlebut lately regarding lower-deckers who were volunteering to transfer to the USS Thor in advance of its relaunch. A while back, Imril might have looked on such an opportunity as an ‘escape pod.’ A way to flee the bad impressions that they’d made on their earlier away missions. And of the memory of Captain MacKenzie’s glare. To start over fresh on a new ship. But now, they couldn't imagine leaving.

Bergmen: response

Imril: How long have you been aboard the Artemis?
