Nervous of the Betazoid Lt Colonel or the half-robot officer detecting her betrayal to their plan, Jovenan kept flicking the computer cooling system on and off in series, that way altering the temperature of the core. It was a desperate measure, but there was a non-zero chance the change was visible to the Artemis sensors and they didn’t ignore it but realised the message encoded in binary ordinals of the Rubicun Edo alphabets. It was a desperate measure, but Jovenan had little other options as the other part of the team was soon to breach…
Yellir: The moment of truth.
And it was already too late. Jovenan sighed inaudibly as she stopped her communication attempt mid-sentence. She hoped it had been enough. Enough to stop the crime from happening. Enough to save Sil.
She joined the others to watch symbols run on the screen. Nobody had stopped her yet, so it seemed nobody had detected her.
She opted to continue playing along in order to avoid appearing any more suspicious.
Jovenan: We have access, but the data is still protected by a password. ::to Adea and MacKenzie:: We can try and crack it, unless either of you…
Adea: Oh I have that right here.
MacKenzie: By all means…
The telepathic officer entered the code, bringing the screen to live. Jovenan didn’t want to think of how he had acquired that security code. The computer processed the password, and soon she could hear the inhuman voice calling them from within the system.
Computer: ::distorted:: AUThoriZAtion ACCepted.
Adea: Amazing.
MacKenzie: Good work.
Jovenan closed her eyes for a moment. Now that the Commonwealth criminal gang had access to the Artemis weapons data and other information, they had taken a major leap in their plan to steal the ship itself. She felt almost nauseated that she was an accomplice in the grievous operation. If they were back in their universe, she’d try and use the poisonous syringes in the pack on her belt and execute all and every one of them and then herself.

The Betazoid winced. Jovenan, along with the others, turned to face him and the half-machine officer he was pointing at. Something was wrong, and it wasn’t just her.
Adea: Captain Yellir, take a look at him - he’s giving off a lot of pain and it’s annoying me.
MacKenzie: ::to Yellir:: What’s wrong with him. Why is his mouth moving but he can’t speak? Is there something wrong with his vocal processor?
Jovenan raised her eyebrow a little. This is why she disliked the cybernetic implants. She wouldn’t trust her body and health to the hands of Commonwealth engineers’ creations. The half-robotic officer halting was conveniently timed for her, though, as it drew attention away from her.

MacKenzie: What did you sense before he blocked you out?
Adea: Response
Uh oh.
Before Jovenan could properly register what had been said, she found herself facing the muzzle of the Colonel’s weapon. Instinctively, she raised her hands, her palms towards the aggressor in sign of non-violent intentions. Her life was at the hands of a thief and a terrorist, and she had nothing to defend herself with.
This was not good.
MacKenzie: Step away from the console, Jovenan.
Jovenan: ::nervous:: I didn’t do anything to him!
Adea/Yellir/Chevalier/Kuva: Responses
She considered her option, but there didn’t seem to be many. She could try fighting the criminal gang, but she was unarmed and outnumbered and was certain to lose, perhaps to die in the process. Her pleas, should she try such a method, were likely to fall on deaf ears.
Jovenan: ::nervous laughter:: And how would I have done that?
MacKenzie/Adea/Yellir/Chevalier/Kuva: Responses
As some of the others approached her and her console to see what she had done, she tried to gather her courage and speak clearly.
Jovenan: I have done nothing wrong. In secondment to your ship, I have to follow your orders… but as an Edo and an officer of the Divine Fleet, I am required to refuse all and any order that is in violation of the law, to mitigate such crimes and to apply punishments for all criminals. I am never released from that directive.
That was the option she had chosen. Lying to her superior, be it only through her contract of secondment, would have been a crime. She hadn’t been able to do that.
She had surrendered.
Closing her eyes, she prepared her body for whatever blow may come next. They might capture her and put her in chains, they might physically assault her. They might kill her on spot. Hoping for less but expecting the worst, she tried to calm herself by picturing herself in the long, flowing dress, elsewhere, in a pleasant place, dancing at the arms of the man she loved.
