Vitor smiled and nodded. It was interesting how each had his story, but there were common links between them. He added the vegetables to the pot and began to stir it.
Silveira: Interesting. It's nice to learn a bit more about both of you. I am glad you agreed to join me. Thank you.
Jovenan: I agree, thank you as well! ::to Sadar:: But really? As fun as cooking with friends is, I can’t imagine living without a replicator!
Sadar: Ah, well, Mizabet is very seclusionist. We have warp capability and such, but more than 80% of our technological advancements in the past century is the result of invaders leaving behind inconsequential or broken down machinery, and our engineers reverse-engineering them in the process of clean-up. That’s how we got warp technology too…
Vitor smiled. It was a good change in pace from the mission and their shore leave shenanigans.
It not only became a nice bonding moment, but it also was going to be a great meal.
Silveira: Remember that now, as cooking partners, we need to share our secret ingredients.
Sadar: Our what?
Jovenan: I, uh, don’t have any secret ingredients. I don’t really have any secrets either, I’m fully open if you want to ask something…
Vitor grinned looking at the pot, pleased with their confused looks.
Spreading chaos and surprise was one of his trademarks after all.
Silveira: Oh don’t be shy, you know what I mean, that secret ingredient we always put on our cooking that makes it just to the point.
Sadar: ::slight smile:: I think you’re overestimating my cooking, Lieutenant, if you think I know enough of what I’m doing to stray that far from the recipe. I’m barely starting to feel comfortable with ingredient substitution.
Vitor raised an eyebrow as he mixed the pot and went to the replicator to program some more fruits. He noticed that Sada appeared to be ahead of him. Those desserts look delicious.
Jovenan: I don’t have a signature ingredient either, though I like simulias koval extract more than some other people I knew. It’s taken from the roots of a woody plant that grows in the lakes where I’m from. I put some in the dressing, though if you can taste it, I put too much of it. It’s very strong and stingy.
He got some apples and kikundo, another Risian fruit, that he put next to the chopping board. He returned to the pot and after one final mix he closed the nozzle.
Silveira: Interesting, I hope I can taste it.
Sadar: Well then, what is yours?
Vitor took the pot out of the stove, getting a cover to place it on the counter, so as not to burn it.
Winking he reached for the bottle he had used both in the dough and in the vegetable mix from the pot.
Silveira: Good old Terran olive oil. It's mainly from the southern part of my home Continent, but it's used in a lot of recipes and if it isn’t too acidic it suits well in every stomach.
Well was an understatement. He smiled as he recalled the effect it had on Thera. Although it worked on the Andorian digestive system a little, combined with vinegar it had quite a side effect. He was fairly certain that Jonathan was conceived after the dinner he cooked for Thera, which consisted of Cod fish, sprouts and boiled potatoes.
And the ancestral Portuguese tradition, soaked in olive oil and vinegar.
With the pot in hand he began to gently pour its content over the spread dough that would wrap it.
Sadar: ::thoughtful hum:: I’ve heard of it. Is it universally suitable, or do you have different ‘secret ingredients’ depending on the taste profile of the dish?
Vitor used a spoon to gather around the filling and when he was done he couldn’t resist taking a bit to taste it. He nodded to Sada as he chewed the last bit.
Silveira: There are a few things I learned not to mix it with, but curiously it is quite universal. I have used it on several dishes from Vulcan to Bajoran recipes. It's a matter of trial and error and risking different ingredients. In time and with practice you get it right.
Jovenan: That does sound good. It’s amazing how you know how different flavours work. ::pause:: I hope I didn’t use too bland or weird tasting ingredients in my salad. Do you think we should have, like, spices on the table in case you don’t like it?
Vitor shrugged to Nan and Sada.
Silveira: We can always add a few to accommodate our different palettes when we try it, but we should first taste it like you cooked before making any changes. ::He began peeling the fruits he replicated, cutting it in thin slices.:: Now I try a lot, you don’t get to cook well unless you fail miserably and taste some of your awful concoctions worse than slug cola.
Sadar: Response
Jovenan responded with something of a polite smile.
Jovenan: Got it. I guess I’ll take a sample to check that it tastes like it should and hope that you don’t find it too strange for you.
Sadar: Response
Vitor shook his head and began to cut the wraps and rolled them.
Silveira: I am sure it will taste great.
Slowly the three Hasperats began to take their familiar shape, as Vitor kept carefully rolling them, so they wouldn’t spill much or tear.
Jovenan: I think I’m ready now. Is there something I can do to help, or do I ::look around:: try to find a dining table somewhere?
With the Hasperat rolled properly, Vitor picked up one of the knives and began to trim them.
With a few precise cuts he finished them and smiled, finally raising his head to Nan and Sada.
Silveira: We can just ask for a proper lunch table, remember we are in the Holodeck. Have you finished as well, Sada?
Sadar: Response
Vitor nodded approvingly and began looking for the dishes.
Silveira: The Hasperats are ready and I just need to load them on the plates.
Since you both deserve a proper plating I will only take a few more minutes to make a nice presentation. None of you are allergic to strawberries I hope.
Jovenan/Sadar: Response
Vitor frowned, for a moment he considered that since Sada was a Doctor he could risk it. But then he remembered something else.
Silveira: I know, just to be on the safe side I can use one of the protein bars from the Fleet’s combat rations.
He went to the replicator and replicated the bars, enjoying the looks on Sada and Nan's faces.
Jovenan/Sadar: Response
With a proud grin he put the rations on the counter, picking a clean knife. With a few cuts he turned the bar in what looked like an open flower, setting each one on the corner of each plate.
Taking the Hasperats he set them diagonally and added the finishing touch, dropping a little of olive oil over the Hasperat and the flower carved bars.
Finally he carefully used the olive oil to draw a little heart in each dish.
Silveira: I hope you like them. Now let's set up a table, I can’t wait to try what you both cooked.
Jovenan/Sadar: Response
