((Sacred Marketplace - Ferenginar))
((OOC - I used this map))
They materialised under the shelter of a designated transport zone, with several groups beaming in and out. The zone was slightly raised and behind them was the Federation Embassy, and directly ahead a large pedestrian walkway that crossed over a body of water. Ava was unsure if this was an estuary or a river. Dark, grey clouds filled the sky and a smattering of light, drizzling rain fell. She knew that the Ferengi had many different names for rain but she had not yet looked them up.
Munro: :: points ahead :: A sign. Looks like the Marketplace is across this bridge.
Jovenan: ::nods:: Let’s go.
As they stepped out of the transportation zone, they were met by several Ferengi vendors holding up varying designs of umbrella, ranging from the simple fabric extended across several prongs to things that looked more like sophisticated drone devices.
Ferengi Vendor: There's a Glebbening forecasted later today, ladies. You don't want to get caught short in that… the Rain Defense 3.0 is the perfect companion. Not only does it protect you from the Glebbening it will carry your shopping!
The drone hovered above them, and umbrella attachment extended and it swooped forward and gathered several waiting bags to demonstrate its abilities.
Then it spun wildly out of control and careened across the walkway and into the water.
Ferengi Vendor: It can fish for you as well!
Munro: No thanks!
Ava purchased the more simple umbrellas and extended it upwards as they strolled across the walkway. She looked down to spot the drone circling around wildly in the water, several Ferengi stood to the side in utter dismay and panic.
The Tower of Commerce loomed tall and formidable above them, a constant reminder of the power of the Ferengi state. Jovenan dropped some Latinum slips into the toll booth that allowed them access to the Sacred Marketplace. Which was a somewhat eclectic mix of stores, markets and vendors selling just about anything you can think of.
It was a heady mix of flashing lights, sales pitches and all manner of species attempting to entice them into their store.
Munro: We're spoiled for choice. Where would you like to go first?
Jovenan: How about that place? It looks like a toystore, we could buy something for Ms Richards’ children. ::pause, slightly embarrassed:: Also, I have no idea how buying anything here works, and it looks the least intimidating for the first try.
The store in question was a brightly coloured store, clearly designed for children.
Munro: Perfect.
They approached the store, and an employee came to greet them. He wore a striped outfit with alternating pink and white.
Toystore salesman: ::over-energetic:: Welcome to Tacky Tarog’s Toys Trinkets and Tames, tacky stand for wacky and tames for toys and games! Anything fun and eccentric for you, your child or your pet!
Ava was glad to see that they catered to pets, maybe she could get Suzie a gift as well.
Jovenan: Hello, uh, do you have anything for newborn babies?
Toystore salesman: Aww, congratulations! Here at Tarog’s we support all profitable social movements! Do you take baby boys’ or baby girls’ toys!?
Munro: And dogs. Specifically Earth canines. Something chewy and squeaky.
Toy store Salesman: We have just the thing!
((Tacky Tarog’s Toys Trinkets and Tames - Sacred Marketplace - Ferenginar))
The salesman guided them inside before disappearing off with the promise to come back with something extra special.
An item caught Ava’s attention on a nearby shelf. It looked like a lump of dry clay. A lot of the ‘toys’ didn't look very childlike.
Munro: Interesting selection. You think Betazoid-Human babies would like some dry clay? I don't even think I'd let Suzie chew on that.
Jovenan: Response
Munro: Anyone back on Edo you'd like to send a gift too?
Ava hoped they didn't have laws against such things. She quite liked Jovenan and didn't want her to be summoned for execution for sending a parcel to her parents. Perhaps that thought was prejudiced, she didn't know much about the Edo culture other than the tales that flew around every starship and knowing how Starfleet carried rumours she suspected that a lot of the notions she had picked up were probably outdated.
She hoped to get to know Jovenan more and perhaps find out about her experiences as an Edo. That would be nice.
Jovenan: Response
Ava spotted some racks of clothing. Rows and rows of adorable outfits for children and babies. Ferengi tailored suits for any gender.
Munro: Is it cultural appropriation to buy these? :: gushes :: Tell me these aren't the cutest things you've ever seen in your life?
Jovenan: Response
