(( Turbolift - Heading to Deck 1, USS Artemis-A ))

Tarsan: May I ask a question or two, Lieutenant?

Ah, their official chance at indoctrinating the newest Ensign! As far as procrastination efforts went, this was working out splendidly.

K’Wara: ::sly grin:: I’ll answer any question you have, unless it has to do with work. And not because I want to stonewall you, but because I feel fairly certain you’ll have plenty of people willing to tell you about your tasks going forward, and fewer willing to share gossip. What do you want to know?

Tamio would go on to think they could probably make a fantastic sculpture exploring the most soulcrushing depression based on the way that Gavrin’s entire body seemed to slump in on itself. Tamio’s grin faltered ever so slightly, as they realized that their attempts at combatting the onset of workaholism was very likely to fail.

The Academy had done the damage to this poor soul already.

Tarsan: Uhh... What's the Captain like? Does she prefer to stand on ceremony or to keep things a little casual?

K'Wara: Captain MacKenzie is... ::chews on the words::

How to describe Addison MacKenzie? See, that was the question that had been stumping Tamio’s creative exploits for the entire time that they’d been back on the Artemis-A since that unfortunate debacle with the Karnack. Alas, they felt quite certain that if they started to lament on the fact that they had thus far been unable to capture the Captain’s air of authority or steel glance in their sculpture of her, it might cause a minor psychological malfunction in the impressionable Ensign in front of them.

As such, Tamio decided to be reasonably sober in their response.

Rank was an awful thing to have.

K’Wara: Difficult to describe. She takes her job seriously, and expects us to do the same, but she’s also a prankster who can’t bear to interrupt an impromptu dance performance and has apparently once invited the entire crew to her family home for a grill party during shore leave. There’s layers to her, as there is to anyone.

oO And then there’s the airlocking rumours... Probably not the best thing to mention right before his onboarding-interrogation. Oo

Tarsan: ::nodding:: Yeah... they always tell us to go as formal as possible but, it's always different in real life, right?

Tamio nodded in agreement.

K'Wara: Wise words there. My recommendation? Be honest and forthright, and don’t worry too much about what you think the Captain wants to hear, ‘cause odds are, you’ll be wrong and just make a fool of yourself. ::chuckles:: I certainly did. Any other questions?

Tarsan: Well, just one more I can think of right now... Anyone else I should do my best to impress? ::wry grin:: Don't want to accidentally upset the person who's going to put me on scrubbing the hull for the entire tour.

K'Wara: I’d like to think few Artemisians would go that far against a fresh Ensign. But, maybe avoid Lieutenants Vailani and Meyers, and the librarian, until you’ve found your spacelegs?

Not that Vailani Zoyara, their predecessor in the Chief of Operations position, was unwelcome company by any metric, but she definitely didn’t suffer fools. And her definition of what a fool actually was was pretty wide-ranging...

Tarsan: Response

K’Wara: Not exactly. Slightly more difficult than most. Did you take any classes with Commander Berin? They’re kind of like that. ::looks up as the door slides open:: Ah. We’re here.

(( Bridge - Deck 1, USS Artemis-A ))

Tamio stepped onto the Bridge of the USS Artemis-A, their eyes almost per instinct gliding to the helm console, before they forced themself to ignore it and look around the wider Bridge again. As they were currently in orbit of Rylor, the current staffing of the Bridge was pretty close to skeleton-crew capacity, but considering that the Artemis senior staff had most recently, somehow, managed to limp a broken Saber class halfway across a sector with just the 13 of them?

The Artemis bridge felt practically full right now.

K’Wara: Welcome to the Bridge, Gavrin.

Tarsan: Response

Tamio smirked. It didn’t matter if you were a pilot or not, they wagered; you never forgot the first time you stepped onto the Bridge of your first posting.

K’Wara: Have you done many duty simulations on a Luna class?

Tarsan: Response
