((Transporter Room, USS Artemis))
The blue, shimmering light dispersed, and the team rematerialized into one of the ship’s transporter rooms. As the transporter chief looked on them, Jovenan acted quickly.
Jovenan: Contamination field!
The force field appeared around the transporter alcove, protecting the rest of the ship crew from the potentially still dangerous dust particles the team might have brought in with them. She was hoping the unusually behaving molecules would dissipate on their own after being taken out of the planet, but she had no way of knowing it yet.
Being safe from the trigger happy Da’al and her nearly rioting compatriots, Jovenan could calm down a notch. As the adrenaline stopped rushing her veins, she began to feel awful. She held her head with both her hands and turned to Lt Silveira, now in charge as Commander Adea was out of order. Jovenan looked at the Commander. The phaser had been on stun when they left, right? Ms Kleebohn hadn’t changed the setting, right?
Lt Silveira moved to him, kicking Commander’s cane out of his reach while simultaneously giving the transporter chief orders.
Silveira: Clear this transporter room. Get a Security team to guard it, and a medical team on standby. Have the bridge to lock on the remaining away teams and call in the Captain.
Jovenan could hear the chief leaving through the door, but she didn’t turn her head away. Commander Adea, Genkos, was lying on the floor, unmoving. He’s just stunned, right?
Jovenan: Is he alright?
Kag: Response
The Lieutenant kneeled beside Commander Adea, turning him. Jovenan couldn’t see properly behind Lt Silveira’s back, so she took a few steps to see better. She still had the medical tricorder with her, but she was suffering from shock and the bystander effect, only being able to watch the macabre sight from the side.
Silveira: Commander, how are you feeling?
As Jovenan stepped to a different angle to see Commander Adea, his grotesque smile came to her vision. Her hearth skipped a beat.
Adea: Vitor? You’ve got to remember, I might be trapped in here with you…
Silveira: Stand back.
He didn’t need to give that order twice, as Jovenan had unconsciously stepped one or two steps back upon hearing the ominous words.
Jovenan: Wha…
Kag: Response
Commander Adea moved fast, but Jovenan couldn’t see what was happening. She could only grasp it when a metre-long metallic blade came through the back of Lt Silveira’s shoulder. There was blood. Jovenan had to cover her mouth not to scream.
Adea: ::pushing Vitor away from him:: But you’re also trapped in here with me.
Lt Silveira looked down, as in trying to understand he had been penetrated with a sword. Jovenan had to concentrate on not screaming nor vomiting.
Silveira: Bite me Commander. Jovenan, extend the containment field to the transporter room, raise a security field around me and the Commander. NOW
She was surprised how having a sword cut in his shoulder didn’t seem to affect Lt Silveira’s thinking, judgement or speaking. Meanwhile Jovenan had to gather all her courage to move her feet, and she wasn’t the one injured and bleeding. What was this man!?
Jovenan: Computer, activate contamination procedure in transporter room and drop the alcove field!
Affirmative bleep sounded, and the force field surrounding the transporter platform disappeared. She turned and quickly stepped off of it, dragging Ensign Kag with her. She kept running toward transporter console but turned her face back to the two senior officers.
Jovenan: Raise the alcove field!
The force field shimmered again around the platform. She wasn’t sure if that had been the best course of action. She had trapped an unarmed, injured man with a sword fielding maniac. However, that had been the Lieutenant’s order, and it did prevent the Commander from hurting her or Ensign Kag, at least until he remembered he’s the XO and could just override her commands to the computer.
Kag: Response
Silveira: You have to help me Commander. You're a doctor, you are infected. Please… ::Vitor looked at Genkos eyes, pleading, hoping he could reach him.:: Please try to fight it.
Adea: Response
Reaching the transporter controls, Jovenan turned to study them. How to operate transporters was taught to all cadets in the Academy, but Jovenan had taken the course on her first year, three years ago, and had used the machine only sparingly ever since.
Jovenan: ::quietly to herself:: Argh, how do you use this…
Kag: Response
Silveira: You know how I deal with threats to the ship and crew. You're not man enough for me.
While operating on the controls, Jovenan listened to Lt Silveira pleading to Commander Adea. She hoped it would work. She had expected the Commander would return to his normal self after being brought to environment with few Da’al dust molecules persisting, but the sword attack indicated he had had no change yet. For all Jovenan knew, the Commander might never turn back.
Adea: Response
Transporter lock! She opened a commlink to the sickbay and spoke quietly and steadily, hoping the two fighting men wouldn’t pay attention to her.
Jovenan: ::quietly:: =/\= Sickbay, this is Transporter Room… ::checks:: One, I’ll send a patient to you. He’s injured and also exposed to dangerous substance. Have a biohazard surgical bay ready. =/\=
Kag: Response
Silveira: I don’t care what you do to me Commander. But unless you compose yourself you're going down. ::Vitor felt his shoulder wet. The cut was still open. In one final effort before the impending fight, he spoke softly. :: You are our First Officer. Think of the others.
Adea: Response
The sickbay affirmed their readiness without delay. She hesitated. The Lieutenant hadn’t given an order to transport him away. There was no way of knowing how the Commander would react to losing his “prey”. But the Lieutenant was badly injured and needed treatment post-haste. For as long as he was trapped with Commander Adea, he was in immediate danger. Jovenan glided three fingers on transporter controls.
Jovenan: ::quietly:: Energizing.
Kag: Response
Silveira/Adea: Response?
The air behind the force field sparkled. Lt Silveira’s body became transparent and disappeared. Jovenan hoped the sickbay crew could save him and treat him to working condition soon. She didn’t want to take any more responsibility. Leaning against the control panel, she watched Commander Adea’s react to the sudden change in the setting.
Adea/Kag: Response
She took her tricorder and scanned the air. There was some gallium in the air, but none of it in the weird compounds. Checking the internal sensors too, she could see that the dangerous, aggression inducing dust had broken up soon after they had transported to the ship. She had been right: something on the planet kept the otherwise unstable molecule from breaking up.
Jovenan: ::deep breath:: Computer, end contamination procedure in the transporter room, but keep the alcove field up.
Adea/Kag: Response
Affirmative bleep, and the doors opened. A security team, alarmed by the transporter chief, entered, quickly pointing phasers at the Commander. If they had had felt any discomfort threatening their First Officer, the sight of blood on the floor, on the Commander’s face and clothes, and on the sword he carried, surely changed their demeanour. They had him surrounded.
Jovenan tried judging his face. Was he still under the effect of the aggression inducing dust? She didn’t want to be fooled by him, he was intelligent regardless of aggression, not to mention in possession of the ship’s command codes. He might still have a trick in his sleeve.
Jovenan: Have you calmed down yet, sir?
Adea/Kag: Response
