(( Captain’s Ready Room – Deck 1, USS Artemis-A ))
Addison sat in her new, reconstructed ready room, perched behind her desk
per usual. In many ways the room had received a facelift – the color scheme
appeared brighter than the usual space grey, and the observation window
behind her desk had been expanded. (The latter was her idea, inspired by the
size of the massive hole Dakora and Richards blew in the wall.) There
were other improvements as well, including the installation of a holoprojector
and reinforced structural security.
The desk, however, was the only area that she considered a significant
downgrade.
She’d been gifted a heavy, beautiful reddish-brown mahogany desk by one of her
former mentors. The desk was a fixture of her ready room. But, for as
heavy as it was, it was now likely reduced to splinters, contributing to the
various space debris in the Sol system. Its replacement was… Starfleet
standard.
And it was awful.
As she looked over the PADD outlining their potential list of possible
assignments in the Borderlands, she penned a personal side quest for their
return: acquire a comparable desk, then eject this poor excuse for a
workstation into space.
They weren’t scheduled for immediate departure – there were still items in the
Sol system that required their attention, but the pace of life on the Artemis
was slowly starting to return to normal… Wounds were healing and scars, both
physical and emotional, were receiving the attention demanded of them. The Frontier
Day massacre was horrible, but even more so that several of her crew were
stationed on other postings during the tragedy, a result of her orders.
She’s checked in with all of them, except one.
When the door chime rang, Addison pressed the button on the cold, metallic desktop,
and the door swished open revealing the newly-promoted Lieutenant JG Gnai.
MacKenzie: Lieutenant, thank you for coming. How is your leave so far?
Gnai: Response
Addison gestured to one of the chairs on the opposite side of the desk. She
tossed her PADD down and was met with an egregious assault on her ears: the
high-pitched clink of metal-on-metal was going to take some getting used
to.
MacKenzie: Commander Salkath did a great job with your suit. Does it meet your needs?
Gnai: Response
MacKenzie: We didn’t have a chance to speak much after the party. I wanted
to check in and see how you were after Frontier Day…
Gnai: Response
The CO’s head rocked back and forth slightly.
MacKenzie: I’ve read the reports about what happened on the Kitty
Hawk. I’ve been keeping track to make sure that every member of the crew are
making their regularly scheduled counseling sessions, but I wanted to see how
you were doing in light of everything that I know happened while you were over
there…
Gnai: Response
Tag, and TBC!
