(( Primary Sickbay - Deck 7, USS Artemis-A ))

It wasn’t so much that Alex had really been bothered by the fact that the Doctor hadn’t wanted deal with a patient who - he obviously thought would give him guff on getting a physical done, but the fact that he thought he could lead her around by the ear, like an errant child being pulled along to keep them from causing trouble.  But she appreciated the fact that when he was caught, his manner seemed to soften immediately.

Bancroft: ::smiling warmly:: Understood, Lieutenant. From here on out, this will be the most aboveboard, plainly narrated physical you’ve ever had. Every step announced, with space for questions, clarifications, or strongly-worded letters to Starfleet Medical.

Alex joined her smile with his in appreciate of his willingness to deal with her in an upfront manner.

Storm: There may be one or two things that I’m afraid of, but this ::She walked over and patted the biobed before turning around and slipping up onto it.  The tactical officer sat there with her feet swinging just slightly.  She raised her hands palm up to shoulder height and shrugged.::

As Bancroft started the biobed up, Alex lay down on the hard surface and placed one hand over the other on her abdomen.

Bancroft: I promise, no more scans without your express permission. ::a beat:: Unless the ship is on fire. Or you are. But I’ll try not to get distracted by edge cases.

Storm:  What other scans do you need?  Or rather, do I need, in order to complete the physical?

Alex watched him as he switched the tricorder back on.  Something in his carriage changed, and Alex could sense his willingness to keep things above board with her.  She appreciated it.

Bancroft: We’ll begin with the baseline bioscan – vitals, cellular integrity, and a quick confirmation that you haven’t been replaced by a changeling since breakfast.

Storm: Well that would be a bit embarrassing if I had.  Let’s hope not.

Alex caught some stray thought of his about cooking … surely she wasn’t going to be a meal.

Bancroft: I’ll start at your boots and work upward, keeping the device in plain view the whole time. And, in keeping with the Lieutenant Storm Transparency Accords of ::glances at chronometer:: fifteen seconds ago, there will be no sleight of hand, no covert subroutines, and absolutely zero shenanigans.

The tactical officer watched him as he moved with both finesse and precision.  It was obvious he knew what he was doing.  He seemed to care about his patients well being, and his bedside manner was everything from frightening to charming.  There were very few times in her - nearly ten year -  career in Starfleet when she felt that someone was so completely cut out for the line of work that they were in, but this was one of those times.  Hilarious yet with the capacity for seriousness when it called for it.

Storm:  So what are the scan telling you?  That my boots are too old and a little bit worn and my shirt was freshly replicated today?  Or nothing so thrilling as that?

Bancroft:  Response

Storm:  I’ve come to a decision about you, Doctor.  If we are ever boarded, I’m sending the hostiles to sickbay.

Bancroft:  Response

Alex gave her head a shake.

Storm:  No, because despite your earlier gaffe, your manner is very disarming.

Bancroft: Response.
