(Crashed Jem'Hadar Fighter - Outskirts of the Bantlox Colony, Laoi III ))
Silveira: Let me jump in first. There’s enough to hold on and get down, but please wait for me to check it out.
Morgan: Knock yourself out, Sil. I think I’m fine up here…
Imril: Waiting as ordered.
Which wasn’t something that could be said to Doctor Sadar later.
The Tactical officer nodded to them and gave another look before moving. Taking a breath, Vitor grabbed the handle on the wall and slowly lowered himself down. Imril did his best to keep the light in front of where he was moving.
Silveira: Dammit it’s smelling even worse as we get down.
Morgan: Well now I’m really glad I decided to stay here.
Imril held their words, and their breath. Vitor was taking this risk on their suggestion, and watching it was an expertise in mounting tension.
Vitor looked for a spot to land, and then reached for one of the support columns. But his foot slid and he nearly lost balance. Thankfully, he reacted quickly and held the handle on the side, and he was able to lower himself to the ground. Kyle covered his eyes and shook his head.
Imril let out their breath as a slow, relieved sigh.
Silveira: Now that wasn’t so fun. You guys really need to get down? I see that rifle you mentioned, but I can look for the eyepiece.
Morgan: After watching you? No. I’m fine. Find the eyepiece.
Imril: Ready to assist if needed. It was my idea, after all.
Vitor swiped the rifle and started disassembling it as he carefully stepped around the debris. Something caught his attention – he walked toward it and tipped his head in that direction.
Silveira: I think it’s here.
Morgan: You get eyes on it?
Imril tried to give aid with the light, not an easy task without all of the things in the way. Staying in one location also seemed to make the surrounding stench even worse.
Silveira: response
Kyle rubbed the back of his neck.
Morgan: What are we hoping to accomplish with it?
Imril: Track down the emitter. Inventory the disruptors, torpedoes, Houdinis and such. Maybe even locate the self-destruct system so we don't have to rig anything to be rid of this overgrown stink-bomb.
Silveira: Response
Kyle’s brow furrowed slightly.
Morgan: And we think we’re gonna be able to do that here? Or can that eyepiece interface anywhere?
The next bit of trivia the ensign shared had been drilled into them during weapon-building classes at the Academy.
Imril: In addition to accessing the ship’s sensor net, the eyepiece should also function something like the exographic targeting sensor that comes with a Starfleet-issue sniper rifle. The ones that were built for the old TR-116s were inspired by what the DS9 crew learned of Dominion eyepieces when they had access to a ship like this. It should be able to look through all the walls of this ship, not just give us a view outside. Do things like lock in on active energy sources.Which we can use to, among other things, find the emitter.
Silveira/Morgan: Response
There was still the matter of getting the alien device to do what the team wanted.
Imril: I wonder if looking at the pieces of the rifle you kept through the lens will elicit a response? If it registers the plasma bank or the secondary energy cell used to power the stun setting, maybe we can trick it into tagging other energy sources?
Silveira/Morgan: Response
Imril shrugged.
Imril: Everything is hypothetical until it’s tested. ::To Silveira:: I recommend you come back up here with us before we do anything with that thing. Do you need help climbing up?
Silveira/Morgan: Response
