((Security Training Facilities - Security Centre - USS Artemis-A))
Ava found herself in the security centre and more specifically the training facilities in what appeared to be a customisable room for exercises.
Cole: ::to the dog:: If you’re here to apply for K-9 duty, I’ll need to see your credentials and a chew toy.
Ava turned towards the voice.
Munro: Oh I thought I was alone. I'm sorry ensign.
Ava tried to smile as Suzie wiggled her way towards this new person to sniff her out. Bouncy red curls met her, with beautiful large eyes. She appeared human but that was never a guarantee in Starfleet.
Cole: ::letting Suzie sniff her hand:: Nothing to be sorry about. ::looking up at Munro, seeing her rank and immediately standing:: I should apologize, Sir. ::extending her hand still holding her PADD with her reports, before swapping it to the other:: Ensign Natasha Cole, Security.
Munro: :: jokes :: She only looks terrifying. Harmless really. Like me. Nice to meet you, I'm Commander Munro, the new XO and that’s Suzie, the dog.
Suzie turned her head and let out a shrill yelp in the direction of her owner. It wasn't clear if this met her approval or disdain.
Cole: Welcome aboard, Commander. ::jokes:: I assume Suzie outranks me now?
Ensign Cole glanced down at Suzie and smiled, Suzie wagged her tail at the attention. The security officer then set her PADD down, before turning back towards Ava.
Cole: Command shuffled a bit recently, I know some of us are still finding our footing, especially after Galaris IV.
Ava simply nodded her acknowledgement. Life in service of a starship had its ups and downs. The comings and goings were part of that, and getting used to it … well … took some getting used too.
Cole: Let me know what you need to feel squared away here, sir. We’re good at locking doors and creatively opening them when we have to.
Ava couldn't help but laugh slightly. She had a feeling she was going to like this one.
Munro: That's some useful knowledge and I have no doubt I'll require those door skills at some point. Before that I might need something else from -
A small ping interrupted her and she could tell the ensign was slightly distracted.
Munro: I've interrupted your work?
Cole: Oh that I was just running a simulation of our recent encounter with the Orion Syndicate. We had been boarded, fortunately we managed to contain them, but I wanted to see what could be done to improve our response time.
Ava nodded in appreciation, impressed with Cole’s desire to improve on an important aspect of security. One of the worst things that could happen to a ship is to be boarded and after reading the logs, she realised that the Artemis was no stranger to that.
Munro: Good work. I'd be interested in seeing those results when you're finished.
Cole: Would you care for a guided tour of the security suite, Commander?
She smiled warmly.
Munro: Beats me just idling around and getting in the way and you can tell me more about the simulation. Don't mind Suzie, she'll follow along. I carry treats in my pocket and she knows it.
Suzie’s ears pricked back and she rushed towards Ava and lifted a paw. Ava laughed and dished out a treat, which was devoured immediately.
Cole: Response
Munro: Lead the way, Ensign. While you're doing that, why don't you tell me more about you? If I remember your personnel file you graduated from the academy recently?
Ava followed closely behind Cole.
Cole: Response
Munro: I had several weeks on a transport ship. I think I may have read the crew files several times just for something to do. It was either that or get blind drunk.
Cole: Response
