(( Primary Sickbay – Deck 7, USS Artemis-A ))

The state of the medical department on the Artemis was a mess. Genkos left for a promotion. Gila royally screwed up and got dishonorably discharged. MacKenzie promised that she’d name him Chief Surgeon, but until a suitable chief medical officer could be found, Kyle was now stuck running the show… and so far the only new officers to roll through the door was a Kobali provisional medic and an eager ensign called crashcart.

…Bancroft. His name was Bancroft.

One day he’d remember the man’s actual name and quit calling him Crashcart.

Maybe.

…If he proved he wasn’t a disaster.

…or going to falsify any medical records.

Kyle stood near one of the biobeds, tricorder in hand. He’d previously been calibrating the sensor cluster overhead, but his thoughts had obviously wandered. He exhaled, bringing his mind back into focus, but he’d neglected to hear the Sickbay doors open, offering admittance to Ensign Imril.

Imril: Hello again, Doctor Morgan. I’m here for my checkup, as scheduled.

Kyle turned, folding the tricorder up and slipping it into the pocket of his labcoat. He hadn’t realized how much time had passed, but he was glad to see Imril again. After their excursion together with Sil on the Jem’Hadar ship, they shared a friendship.

Morgan: Imril! So it is. Any complaints? Aches, creaks, groans, snaps…

The doctor led the engineer to one of the open biobeds and gestured for him to have a seat.

Imril: Nothing much to complain about, really. General aches and pains from the refit work. Every now and then, I get a twinge in my back, too. I took some shrapnel there in the Galaris mission. It all got dug out not long after, though. But I figured I should mention it.

Kyle raised an eyebrow. Had that been in Imril’s records? He didn’t recall seeing it… So, who was responsible for inputting the record and didn’t? Gila? Vhysa’lia? Crashcart? He rolled his eyes slightly. It didn’t matter. He’d have to rely on the patient’s accurate reporting for now.

Morgan: Shrapnel, you say? How’d that happen?

Imril: ::Dryly:: Some insurgents took offense to a window that I happened to be on the other side of.

Kyle removed the tricorder from his labcoat and flicked it open, punching in several commands as he did so.

Morgan: Well I hope you responded with equal offense. ::pause, analyzing the readings:: You said you still have a twinge in your back?

Imril: Response

The physician keyed in several more commands into the tricorder, and then removed the portable scanner from the top of the device. He held the tricorder in one hand, and proceeded to move the scanner over Imril’s lower back for a more detailed reading.

Morgan: Hmm… Is it like a stabbing pain or like a sore muscle ache-type pain?

Imril: Response

Morgan: When do you notice it? Is it persistent, or does it come and go? And if so, do you know what might trigger it?

Imril: Response

Tag, and TBC!
