K’Wara: I’ll build up a collection to wager away soon enough, though I doubt it’ll be as exciting as a turn at the Tactical Console.

Now, if they were to wager away any of the various knick-knacks in their storage unit on SB118, that was a different story, but the novelty of a good betting culture lost its allure if the conclusion to the bets wasn’t carried out immediately. The notion that your material possession hung in the precarious balance of whatever ill-fated gamble you’d decided to take on? That was the fun of it all.

Less fun when the conclusion of the bet was an unceremonious IOU-note to be cashed next time the Artemis made its way around Starbase 118, at which point shore leave would be the most exciting thing to happen, not the conclusion of any bets.

Cole: ::nodding:: that’s fair. Back to your question about Teal. ::looking at her glass:: I’d be remiss to not mention, my younger sibling is a bit of an Art Major. So against my will I might have learned a few things about color theory.

Tamio hated to be predictable, but couldn’t resist the casual mention of the words ‘Art Major’, and their eyes focused a bit more on the conversation now than before.

Cole: Teal is an interesting color because our perception of it varies on factors. Your shirt for example is more of a Deep Aqua, which is on the end more towards the blue end, and if I may brings out the Blue in your eyes. But the Teal on Crashcart… ::pauses to correct herself:: Our medical staff leans more towards the Green end of that spectrum.

Vitor’s sly glance made Tamio shrug non-committedly. “The blue end of Teal” was still “Teal”.

Silveira: Go on.

K’Wara: Seems like you know a fair bit more than just a ‘few things’ about this. ::smirks at Nat:: Bit of an artist’s streak yourself, maybe?

Cole: Juno is more versed in color theory, and could go on forever about it. I’m just happy to listen to them. I think they're planning on sending me a belated gift after receiving my own personal quarters.

Tamio smiled slightly at that.

Silveira: Well, to me it was very helpful. Remember to thank your sister on my behalf.

Cole: Honestly, I think Juno would be thrilled to know their years of unsolicited color education finally served a tactical purpose. ::small smile::

Silveira: I am certain of that, and how about you Tamio, any brothers or sisters?

Tamio looked up at the colorblind Portugisian, shaking their head with the profound regret of an individual who’d just found an extra vacation day at the bottom of their sock drawer.

Yes, such regret.

K’Wara: Alas, only child. My mom was hardly home growing up, and didn’t want to saddle my Starfleet dad with too many kids on top of it all. You?

Silveira: Nope, as you might all have guessed I am an only child. But I do have a very close friend that feels like a brother. He’s the reason I took that LOA.

Tamio’s flippant expression dropped slightly at that, and they tapped the pads of their fingers unevenly against the side of their champagne glass.

K’Wara: He’s ok, I hope?

Cole:  Response

Silveira: Too sad of a story to be shared tonight. Let’s say it was a family matter and I felt compelled to go with him. Our grandparents knew each other and although he is slightly older we met as kids and spent some time together. Like I say, he is my brother from another family. But how about your families? ::He tipped his head in Nat’s direction:: You mentioned your sister so I want to know it all.

Cole: Response

Relieved that the otherwise perfectly lovely conversation wouldn’t be derailed by stories of loss and mourning, Tamio shook off the temporary melancholy that had threatened to dominate their senses, refocusing on Natasha.

K’Wara: Juno sounds lovely. Are they published? I might look up some of their work.

Cole: Response

Silveira: Well, my parents run a medium size trade company with it’s own ships. Paternal grandparents are retired on Earth and Maternal grandparents are retired on Risa. ::He winked as he leaned forward.:: Yes I grew up between Earth and Risa. You all know my significant other Nan… And only close ones missing are Thera and Jonathan. ::He smiled as he spoke their names.:: Thera and I had a relationship, back when we were in Ops. Jonathan is our son.

‘Grandparents retired on Risa’. If there were ever words that Tamio had not been at all surprised to hear from an individual, it was hearing those words come out of the mouth of laidback and perfectly delightful Vitor Silveira. “Jonathan is our son”, however, made their eyes go as wide as teacups.

K’Wara: You have a child? ::examines:: I never would have guessed.

Silveira/Cole: Response

Tamio nodded along with the story, giving it serious thought.

K’Wara: Must be difficult...

Silveira/Cole: Response

K’Wara: True. My old man always said “ship service is for when you’re young and adventurous - station life is for when you’re ready to settle down and be an adult.” Don't know if that's true yet.

Silveira/Cole: Response
