((USS Griffin - Main Shuttle Bay, Deck 11, USS Artemis-A))
Having been fashionably late to the shuttle she at least wanted to make a polite first impression if she couldn’t make a punctual one.
Lyara: ::Giving a small wave:: Hello petty officer, I’m Ensign Lyara.
Filistrien: It is a pleasure, Sir. ::inclines his head:: Xandeus Filistrien, Signals Analyst.
She gave a polite wave to the others and tried to play off her slight embarrassment of being late.
Bergmen: ::sighs thoughtfully:: Yeah… ::clears his throat and turn to Sadar:: Eh… All power distribution systems are nominal, the coils are charged, lieutenant.
Lyara raised an eyebrow as she noticed Bermen’s… ogling of the intelligence officer. While yes, she could concede attraction was something that can happen on the job, there was a certain standard one should hold themselves to. She wouldn’t say anything about it as it wasn’t bad, just a little silly.
Gnai: Response
Sadar: Kahines II is two days away at Warp 6, so you shall all have plenty of time to become acquainted with both the mission profile and each other.
It was always nice to have time to socialize with crew members. She already knew everyone on the shuttle, sans the Petty Officer, so it’d be a nice casual warp flight. Alroyo took a sip of her tea and placed it down as she turned to the console.
Lyara: So did we get our pre-flight checks done?
Imril: ::Fingers zipping over the interface:: Commencing Engineering pre-flight… All systems green.
Bergmen: OPS are ready whatever you are, navigation.
Alroyo checked her console to see that everything on their side was good to go.
Gnai: Response
Filistrien: DS224 Ops wish us a safe journey, Sir.
Lyara looked back to Gila for the order to take off. The Lieutenant sighed then took the co-pilots seat next to Lyara.
Sadar: Thank you. All right... ::shaky breath:: E-Ensign Lyara? Take us out. Warp 6 when ready.
Gnai/Imril: Response
Lyara: Thank you for flying with Alroyo Airlines, we’ll be cruising at a nice warp six. Refreshments will be provided.
The ensign smiled as she immediately moved the shuttle to take off and leave the shuttle bay. For a pilot she hadn’t done a lot of flying lately so she was enthused to be back at the conn. Once the shuttle left the bay she put in the coordinates and checked stellar maps. She gave DS224 one last look as if to say goodbye then engaged the warp core.
Once they reached warp 6 Filistrien turned away from the communications console. Alroyo in turn checked the shuttle was on the right track then turned to listen to his debrief.
Filistrien: For the moment, our projected approach is void of unexpected complications. Klingon Border Control will apprise us if anything changes on their end.
Sadar: Thank you. ::looks around to the gathered officers:: I won’t go into the details here - the mission outline provided to us by Starfleet is more detailed than I could be regardless - but upon our arrival at Kahines II, we will be engaging in a joint archaeological expedition with a team of archaeologists from the Klingon Research Outpost on Brestant, and we will be staying as Starfleet’s representatives until the team of archaeologists from Starfleet Historical Society make landfall. Any questions?
Bergmen: What if that discovery is actually… you know, of Klingon historical origin? Will we stay?
Gnai/Imril: Response
Filistrien nodded, hopefully sharing the same concern Ollie had expressed.
Filistrien: While I may be Intelligence now, I was a Communications Specialist originally. Consider me predominantly here in that capacity, though I am also here to provide a counterintelligence perspective to any information we might be able to parse from the ruins themselves.
It’s true, intelligence being involved in a mission with Klingons would probably raise some suspicions about why he was there.
Sadar: The colonists on Kahines II are worried that the discovery of the ruins might lead to the Empire claiming the colony as their sovereign territory, so while our main focus should be on the archeological survey, we also need to be mindful that the colonists’ fears don’t lead to conflicts with the Klingon scientists.
Filistrien: There has been no indication that the Klingon scientists are there for any other reason than to ascertain the identity and legacy of the Kahines II installation. ::considers:: That said, there is a precedent for similar incidents in modern history - like the DMZ near Cardassian space - so the colonists’ fears, while irrational, are not entirely illogical.
Bergmen: Because we have a great tracking record with handling things like DMZ between Federation and Cardassia, right?
Lyara watched awkwardly as Bergmen looked at her since she was the token Bajoran in the room when Cardassians were mentioned. Why he decided to mention her people’s history and then turn to her as if she’d agree, she couldn’t figure out. Instead of backing him up she shot him a glare so that he strayed away from bringing up a topic that still stung even newer generations of Bajorans.
The ensign waved off what he said like that’d undo the years of oppression her parents faced. And like he seemingly forgot the Bajoran government was barely involved with the DMZ and the Bajorans that joined the Maquis were not representative of the people as a whole.
Bergmen: No, sorry. That was over the line. ::sighs:: Just… I have seen what this kind of problems and red tape can do to people.
Ah yes, it was red tape that kept her people occupied for decades. Surely, the Federation could have saved them if it weren’t for red tape!
Lyara: ::Sarcastically: It was totally red tape that was the reason people suffered. And not the brutal occupying force.
Alroyo decided it was time to cool off and turned back to sip on her jasmine tea she had placed next to her console. Hopefully the soothing taste will bring her to her happy place, a nice beach in the bay area of California. It was best to end it before they actually got into a discussion about the touchy subject that is Bajoran politics.
Gnai/Imril: Response
Sadar/Filistrien: Response
Her brief meditation was interrupted by Bergmen’s questioning towards the Lieutenant.
Bergmen: Will we use Griffin as our base of operations, or will we operate from the expedition base camp, ma’am?
Sadar: Response
The Ensign nodded then looked to the others to see if they had any more questions.
Lyara: And until the Starfleet Historical Society lands what will our exact duties entail?
Gnai/Imril: Response
Sadar/Filistrien: Response
Lyara nodded her head at the explanation provided by the two officers.
Lyara: Sounds simple enough.
Gnai/Imril/Bergmen: Response
Sadar/Filistrien: Response
Lyara decided it would be good to lighten the mood after a small outburst from earlier with a good joke.
Lyara: So that means Pretty Officer won’t be doing any spy stuff like in the holonovels?
It seemed she accidentally complimented the officer rather than addressing him by his proper rank, not that she thought he wasn’t attractive. So much for the decorum she had judged the other Ensign for earlier.
