(( Captain’s Ready Room – Deck 1, USS Artemis-A ))
Gila hadn’t had much time to relax after coming back aboard the Artemis. She’d changed to her standard uniform - and she was glad of that - and she’d escorted Doctor Nesin and Engineer Griil to Sickbay, so the staff on duty could give them some proper care after the ordeal they’d been through. She’d left Ensign Bancroft and Ensign Cole there as well, since Ensign Cole needed to be checked out, and then she’d left again. While it had been unexpected to be put in charge of a team - the notion still terrified her, even if it was in the past - obviously that meant she had to debrief with the Captain, and this is why she joined Vai-net and Sil-net in the Captain’s Ready Room, sitting uneasily on the other side of the Captain’s new desk.
MacKenzie: Sil, let’s start with you. How far did you get with the drone dismantling and what did you learn?
Silveira: Response
MacKenzie: Alright, Zoyara and Gila. What about you? What did you learn in your time with the Grunden?
Gila twisted her anxiety band, trying to find a good way to explain what they’d experienced, so it took her a bit longer than usual to realize what was wrong. And, admittedly, she didn’t recognize it until she realized that Vai-net’s was delayed in her response, which was unusual for her friend who was ever the consummate professional.
Captain MacKenzie had addressed the two of them by their first names. Gila stared at the Captain, mouth agape in utter confusion, and she had no doubt a similar sense of surprise could be sensed from Vai-net’s expression. To no one’s great surprise Vai-net was the first to come to her senses.
Vailani: Erm, we learnt that the General believes or at least suspects his government involvement in a conspiracy. I believe he may have more information, Captain, than he's revealed as yet. I do think he wants to share with us :: sighs and shakes her head :: What happened in Breetia was nothing short of a massacre, Captain. Cruel and unnecessary.
Gila realized that it was her turn to respond now, and she twisted her anxiety band a half dozen times as she struggled to make her thoughts get back in order.
Sadar: I, uhh... I-I agree with Vai-n- Lieutenant Vailani. Th-Though... I will admit, it’s, uh, u-unlikely that the attack was random. They may have been wanting to cut off access to the facility where we discovered the prisoners.
The Captain tilted her head to the side, and Gila realized - too late - that she’d offered far too little information.
MacKenzie: You discovered who?
Sadar: Th-That’s, uhh, D-Doctor Nesin and Engineer Griil, Sir. T-Two of the most senior scientists responsible for the planet reaching warp-capability.
That news clearly didn’t please the Captain, who was no doubt even more intimately aware of the sensitive political situation they’d landed themselves in than Gila was. And Gila was terrified.
MacKenzie: And they were where? What do you make of it?
A difficult question to answer, considering the minimal amount of information they had at this time.
Sadar: They were kept sedated in something resembling hibernation-tanks in an underground facility in the center of Breetia. Unfortunately, I-I didn’t have the time to ask why... W-We were being chased by guards up until we got beamed out.
Vailani: I think we’ve got nothing but half-formed opinions and mistruths to go on. The Grand Marshall, seemingly acting on his own, seems to be the main agitator here?
Sadar: Not necessarily. ::twists anxiety band nervously:: D-Doctor Nesin - the Grunden scientist - seems certain that it’s, uhh, High Chief Kraton, one of their high-ranking government officials, who’s at fault for their imprisonment.
The Captain started massaging her forehead, clearly struggling to either keep her cool or fight off the instinct to just warp out of the system and never looking back. Gila’s initial instinct was to agree with that plan - she’d seen enough of this war already - but all the uncertainty and lack of information annoyed her.
MacKenzie: The Kobyar and Grunden have each agreed to come aboard and share what they know and start a conversation since this is neutral ground. We need to continue our investigation and see what else we can learn. Lieutenant Vailani, where do you think we should begin and how might you recommend we distribute teams?
Vailani: I think we need to learn more about the technology, it is clear they’ve had some outside influence. The signal that Doctor Sadar’s team located, might hold some clues. I can go with Lieutenant Silveira, Gila and Mister Bergmen to track this down.
Gila shuffled anxiously in place, not wanting to interrupt Vai-net in her answer to the Captain’s query, but also aware that if she didn’t voice her opinion now, she may not be able to at a later time.
Sadar: I-If possible, I’d like to get the chance to do a proper, uhh... I-I-Interrogation? D-D-Debrief? I-I want to know why Chief Engineer Griil and Doctor Nesin were kept hidden away like that. Th-They seemed to have no knowledge of alien life, so they’ve been kept down there since before First Contact.
MacKenzie/Silveira: Responses
Vailani: I think Commander Jovenan can help Ensigns Imril and Tho’Bi to uncover the secrets of the technology we recovered. Ensign Bancroft observed the technology in the underground compound - he would be useful to assist them.
MacKenzie/Silveira: Responses
Vailani: That means yourself Captain, can host Major Oolwi and General Kexxin. Ensign Cole on guard and Richards can assist you.
Gila liked the notion of Ensign Cole being kept somewhere safe. Somewhere less prone to triggering her explosive creativity would be a vast improvement for her physical health.
MacKenzie/Silveira: Responses
Sadar: Th-The signal originated from off-world, but it’s not very strong. I-It’s likely that it originates from somewhere in the system... W-We may, uhh... W-We may need to move the Artemis to pursue it, b-but with alien government personnel aboard, I, uhh... I-I’m not sure how that would be received?
MacKenzie/Silveira/Vailani: Responses
Sadar: Understood Sir.
