(OOC: I am delaying the launch of our mission by a few days so that we can pay our IC respects to Commander Adea as he sets out on this new, exciting journey.)
(( Shuttlebay 1, USS Artemis-A ))
Mobilizing a large group of officers from multiple departments and duty shifts was a difficult enough task out in the open. To do so in secret on an explorer the size of the Artemis was practically impossible. It took multiple threats of airlockings to convey the seriousness of the commanding officer’s demand for secrecy, but the clear look of surprise on Adea’s face at
seeing the assembled
officers and crew standing in rank and file made the effort worth it.
MacKenzie, with the other senior officers standing on either side of her, watched as the former Chief Medical Officer of the Artemis made his way into the shuttlebay, surrounded by a sea of smiling faces – friends and colleagues – lined up in parade formation having left a narrow path only large enough for one person to walk through. He stopped abruptly, taking in the officers gathered on his behalf.
MacKenzie’s face remained
stern and unwavering. When she caught his eye, she bellowed.
MacKenzie: Attention to orders.
On command, the others
assembled in the bay snapped to attention, their heels connecting with the deck
plating in a singular, unified clang that echoed off the bay’s high ceilings. When
the reverberation stopped, she continued.
MacKenzie: I believe your shuttle awaits, Commander.
Adea: Response
She watched as Adea moved slowly toward the group of senior staff that had gathered at the end of the procession, his cane clacking on the deck, along with the tiny pattering of Toto’s footsteps. The Weimaraner, much like the Chief Medical Officer turned Executive Officer and back again, had become as much a fixture of the Artemis-A as its owner had.
Too soon, he had reached the shuttle
where the final line of senior staff stood waiting, with the Captain and First Officer
at the head.
MacKenzie: Any last words, Mr. Adea?
Adea: Response
MacKenzie: Commander Adea, your service to this ship and its crew have
been exemplary. Our loss is the Eagle’s gain, and I am filled with
nothing but pride knowing that you are leaving us in pursuit of a higher
purpose. On behalf of the entire crew, I wish you fair skies and calm seas.
Adea: Response
She nodded slightly before returning her attention to the rest of the assembled
crew.
MacKenzie: Dismissed!
Her eyes tracked the group of officers as they slowly filed out of the
shuttlebay en masse. When the bay doors closed, it was only Genkos, Toto, and
the senior staff who remained.
(OOC: This is your opportunity to offer any goodbyes for Genkos IC that you’d like. Consider the end of this sim as the equivalent of an “Any” tag.)
Tag, and TBC!
