(( Elysium – Deck 5, USS Artemis-A ))
Jaseb leaned toward his roommate and nodded in the direction of the freshly promoted Lieutenant junior grade, Savel.
Chevalier: This table is for ensigns only, right?
Gnai: Yes, one-pip only here.
Jaseb couldn't help but laugh, and Gnai joined in as he appreciated the joke.
to assert oneself above former peers, leaving behind the previous camaraderie to assume a position of authority. It requires a rise in stature and a shift in perspective. But Jaseb was glad for Savel. He fully deserved the honor.
It's not like he planned to drive him away if he returned to them. "Rise up" didn't mean severing their relationship.
But Jaseb's thoughts quickly took over when another voice was heard somewhat unexpectedly.
Dakora: Mister Chevalier, I’m pleased to see you up and around. I heard that you went through a bad deal, planetside.
Chevalier looked up at the voice and saw Dakora standing by the table, sparkling water in hand.
Chevalier: Eh, yes, sir. An unlucky step at the wrong place. What can be said? But it's okay. I'm okay.
oO Liar... Oo
Commander shifted his eyes from Chevalier listening to his answer to Gnai.
Dakora: And you, Ensign Gnai, congratulations on your first awards. I bet there will be many more in the future.
Gnai: Thank you, sir! These were somewhat a surprise to receive. But ::pause:: there was so much that happened in the mission. And on shore leave. It makes sense to commemorate it somehow.
Dakora: True. It seems like Command has decided we’ve had enough excitement.::He all-but-grimaced.:: Since our next assignment is practically a parade.
Jaseb wore a forced smile and waved as he showed the commander both thumbs up.
Gnai: A parade…? ::beat:: Oh yes, the ship is headed back to Earth. It’s strange to be going back so soon after leaving.
Chevalier: I’m looking forward to seeing a modern Earth. I've never been there before, so it will be nice to compare it with the historical documentaries they showed us in school.
Gnai: Do you know any more about what’s going to be happening, sir?
