Renirs: Darn, you alive? I didn’t do that, by the way.

Something had pierced a hole through the unknown man’s torso. He did wear a uniform, with a massive red spot where the hole was, but under these circumstances, Jozial couldn’t tell he was on their side. Likewise, the man probably didn’t know if she was in his side either. She kept her totally-not-taken-without-permission phaser rifle pointed at him in case the half-dead man turned out to be just enough half-alive to shoot at her, or in case he had fully alive friends or enemies nearby.

J Kader: Huh?

Well, that’s no answer. How difficult was it to tell if you’re still alive or not? She stepped just a few steps to aside, behind a corner for cover. Dead people don’t usually shoot anymore, so she could always just wait for him to die. That’s probably something she could be yelled at, though, so she better do something.

Renirs: Get rid of that gun and I’ll come help you!

J Kader: Gun? What… gun?

Oh dear god, he is an officer.

He looked all confused about the concept of a gun, so much so Jozial thought he might be somewhat delirious over the massive loss of blood. Those kinds of people where the most dangerous. Sane people like Jozial know when to shoot and when not to shoot, but hallucinating people might get all aggressive to people and things that aren’t even there. Furthermore, he might be getting into a shock, which Jozial had learnt was a not good thing, so she tapped her combadge snorting annoyedly.

Renirs: =/\= Hey sickbay, Renirs here. There’s a guy with a hole blasted through his chest on Deck 11, near ::squints:: the Hazards Lab, better get him there. He was like this when I found him. =/\=

Hawkins: =/\= Sickbay here. You have to deliver him to the emergency triage on deck 12. =/\=

Doesn’t sound like the puppet monster. That’s good, but she couldn’t comply with the order. She didn’t have the time to start doing a side quest while the main campaign was on for a limited time.

Renirs: =/\= Na-ah, I’m gonna keep going and find the other alties! =/\=

Hawkins: =/\= Wha Crewman, we’re at full capacity and you’re at the better position than any of our response teams! Give him first aid and deliver him to the triage at once! Sickbay out. =/\=

The commlink was severed before Jozial could start insisting back, leaving her alone to express her frustration to the blooded man looking for the gun he had dropped. She seriously considered just leaving him there. That just would have been evil, and she wasn’t evil. Morals just didn’t agree with her all the time.

J Kader: There… you are.

Jozial watched as the man swayed from side to side despite holding onto the wall while trying to reach the gun which lied in a small puddle of blood. He was really dying out there, but he was still alive and able to some level of comprehension, meaning he was still a threat, not a big one, but neither was a baby with a gun and we still don’t give them those except in dire circumstances.

Renirs: Leave it on the ground!

She held the stock of the phaser rifle tightly pressed against the side of her waist, her finger inside the trigger guard as always, the safety was off and the rifle ready to fire a burst of big bonks to the head. However, instead of reaching the gun and quickly turning to open fire at her, the man fell down to a pool of his own blood. Jozial slowly lowered the weapon as she watched the dying man pathetically trying to move his limbs on the floor. She really gotta do something to help him, right?

Leaving her cover, she still kept her rifle ready in case this was a trap. She walked over to him, and as he didn’t seem to suddenly get better and wrestle her down, she nudged his pistol with the tip of her shoe and picked it up, strapping it to her belt to the other side from the altie projectile pistol she had legally acquired earlier. Ignoring the new addition to her weapon collection, she looked at the man lying by her.

Renirs: You really are in bad shape, aren’t you?

The man’s face was very pale as his eyes went from side to side without actually focusing on anything. Jozial kneeled besides him, trying to remember anything from the short emergency first aid course they had made to take in the service school. She didn’t remember much, but the first task on the list was to secure the area. Done. Well, she would need someone to cover for her, but she didn’t have a plus one with her and she was the best fighter on the ship anyway, so she could do both task by herself.

J Kader: Was the light, always this red?

Renirs: Yes. Red light means don’t go towards it.

J Kader: Response?

She rested the rifle to her knee so she could help the man but would be ready for surprises. The more she remembered of the first aid course, the more she remembered how pointless it had been. All they had done was kneeling each other’s crouches to control the blood flow to legs while placing a tourniquet in there. Then they had also practiced dragging the injured to the place where the meds were hiding so that they could do all the work.

After securing the area, the combat med guide, or whatever its name was, ordered her to address the critical loss of blood. The further steps, airways, breathing and circulation seemed pretty pointless right now since, may she emphasis, there was a massively bleeding hole in the middle this man. A tourniquet would be no use in this case, as you can’t actually put it to middle of one’s torso, so the other option was… uh, pressure?

She opened his jacket to see the wound better. As soon as she did so, more blood rushed out as the pressure from the pulsating wound lessened.

Renirs: Oops, bad decision!

J Kader: Response?

Or was it? Now she knew where the wound was, and she could apply the pressure directly onto it. She just didn’t have anything to bind it with. She looked around. Usually, she was on top of things and the other idiots kept ruining it for everyone. While the idiot on the floor was the main culprit of this failure, it was her who began to feel helpless. Not a feeling she was particularly accustomed to.

There was probably an emergency med kit in the lab just next to them, but right now, only her hands were stopping him from bleeding out. Any piece of cloth would do right now… Oh, right. She placed her knee on top of the wound to keep it from bleeding as she quickly but cumbersomely removed her own jacket, folded it, and planted it on top of the wound, holding it down. She couldn’t keep push it down while dragging him to the nearest turbolift, so she removed her belt, dropping her small arms collection to the floor, and tied it around his torso and over the folded jacket. She then tightened it as much as she could.

Critical bleeding. Done. Next, airways and breathing. She looked at his face again. He looked much worse than he had just a moment ago. Was he in shock, unconscious, or dead, or was he just a bit tired?

Renirs: Hey, I didn’t give you permission to die! If you die on me, I’m gonna kill you.

J Kader: Response?
