(( Captain’s Ready Room – Deck 1, USS Artemis-A ))
MacKenzie sat across from the Mizarian Assistant Chief Medical Officer. In her
time serving with the woman, she’d formed many varying, often conflicting opinions
of the doctor, but overall found her to be someone with good intentions, even
if her execution left something to be desired. Now, apparently, she was confessing
to her commanding officer that she was a criminal. Somewhat a bastion for
flared drama, MacKenzie wondered whether what she was saying was actually
true or if she’d officially gone off the deep end.
MacKenzie: You’re a what?
Sadar: ::opens and closes mouth some odd twenty times:: A-A...
I-I-I said I-I’m a... C-C-C-C-C-
Her brow furrowed.
MacKenzie: …a criminal.
There goes the anxiety ring… And it’s really
moving – must really be something serious.
MacKenzie raised her arms slightly with her palms facing the ceiling.
MacKenzie: What’s this all about?
The woman’s eyes seemed transfixed by the PADD she’d placed on MacKenzie’s
desk.
Sadar: I-I-It’s, uhh... ::gestures to PADD: M-M-May I?
Addison raised her arms
again. They’d made it this far, after all… Sadar
turned on the PADD’s screen and handed it to her.
Sadar: I-I-It’s... I-I... ::slow, deep breaths:: ‘Failure to disclose relevant and p-potentially d-d-dangerous medical information’, ‘I-Intentional endangerment of fellow crew’ and... And... ::voice breaks:: ‘F-Falsification of Medical Documents’.
MacKenzie’s eyes immediately
shot up at the end of the final claim.
MacKenzie: Falsification of Medical
Documents?
Sadar: I-I-I... ::swallows::
I-I report to t-turn myself in, Captain.
She repeated herself, more firmly this time.
MacKenzie: Falsification of Medical Documents?
Sadar: Response
Addison rolled her eyes before tossing the PADD to her desk and swiveling her
chair to face away from Dr. Sadar. Her elbows moved to rest on the respective armrests,
and she raised her clasped hands such that her steepled index fingers rested
squarely on her chin. Where were they to go from here? There were so many
questions running through the red-headed CO’s brain – running so fast she could
hardly grab one fast enough to ask it – that she thought it prudent to go with
the most obvious, and avoid acting out of any assumptions. If what Gila was alleging
was true, it would require some kind of disciplinary action which, contrary to
many of the crew’s belief, she did not enjoy, but the extent to which
she’d be required to act had yet to reveal itself.
MacKenzie: Explain it to me.
Sadar: Response
MacKenzie rapidly swiveled back to face Gila.
MacKenzie: I’m a doctor, so explain it all to me. What did you
notice, and when? (beat) ::waving her finger:: And then your choices.
Sadar: Response
Tag, and TBC!
