(( Conference Room - Deck 1 - USS Karnack ))

Ollie took a deep breath, and Imril let one out. They couldn't release all of the tension of the day, though. Because there were too many uncertainties on the other side of that blue-on-black horizon. But they could take comfort in knowing that they would not be alone in facing them.

The silent moment ended when Ollie turned his attention to the door and the bridge beyond.

Bergmen: Do you think they noticed we are not there?

Imril nodded slowly. What they said next was intended as a bit of observational humor, but probably sounded like the half-baked meanderings of an exhausted mind.

Imril: Everyone on a bridge is typically very aware of who else is there. Because everyone on a Bridge should be doing something very important or shouldn't be there at all. So yes, I think we’ve been noticed not being there. Importantly drinking replicated champagne. Which I noticed you didn't drink, either.

They laughed and started to stand. Every one of their joints creaked with effort. But they didn’t get far. Ollie took Imril's hand with a giggle, pulling it close into his embrace. The arm was still sore, but his touch was a balm for that.

Bergmen: No, don’t go. If they were missing us, they would have come for us by now. They don’t, so… ::smiles:: They don’t know what they are missing out there.

Imril nodded towards the back of the room, closer to where the Captain would normally sit.

Imril: Actually, I was going to check if that other door will open. If we set foot onto the bridge just to use the turbolift, people would notice. And probably hand us more champagne to not drink.

Also, the more direct line they had to Sickbay and that first diagnostic scan, the better. For them, for everyone.

But, just for a little time more, Sickbay could wait. They could sit there with Ollie, hand in hand, and enjoy a hard-earned victory and this long-delayed resolution.

END FOR IMRIL
