((Sickbay - Deck 7 - USS Artemis-A))
Was it worth it? She thought to herself. She took stock of what she knew, Doctor Morgan was there to ask his question, Ollie was doing whatever he was preoccupied with, and the Boraxians survived. To think out there somewhere there’s a universe she wasn’t there so Was it worth it?...
Cole: ::looking directly at Morgan:: Yes
Morgan: If you say so, but I think I'd try to avoid flirting with the line of life and death if it were me.
Cole: Once upon a time, I think I danced a little too close to that line. Before I… figured myself out. Back then, it was easy to confuse running toward danger with running from something. I thought if I kept proving myself, people would stop questioning who I was.
She glanced down, flexing her hand unconsciously before continuing.
Cole: Now, I know better. I know who
I am … I just needed the rest of the world to let me be her. So no, I’m not
planning to cross that line again. But if it means saving someone else from it,
I won’t hesitate to stand on it.
Morgan: ::nodding slowly, insistently:: And if may very well come to that, so long as you make sure you do so without negligence.
Cole: ::looking past the Doctor inquisitively:: Doctor are you aware there is a rock attached to the ceiling of your office?
Morgan: Actually, there are several rocks adorning various crevices of my office. You didn't put them there, did you?
Cole: Not my style, or prevue Doctor. Plus it would be foolish if I had, for me to be the one to draw your attention to it.
They both appeared to relax for a moment.
Morgan: Good. I would have hated to violate my Hippocratic Oath today.
Cole: And no one would want that, otherwise Doctor Bancroft might end up in charge.
The Doctor’s smile appeared to be that of someone mildly annoyed.
Morgan: The great mystery of 2402, apparently. You know, if you fancy yourself some investigative work, technically we could consider this a breach of security protocol... given the access to sensitive records anyone who was in the office might have had...
Cole: That would fall to me to investigate then. Are you done with your exam?
Morgan: Response
Natasha hopped off the Biobed and retrieved a small PADD from her trousers.
Cole: Just out of curiosity, rocks don’t normally appear in sterile environments, do they? I mean, unless someone ordered “boulder therapy” and forgot to sign the release form.
Morgan: Response
Cole: Any unusual experiments run recently interdepartmental wise between Medical and Science? I heard a rumor about one that resulted in mint flavored hyposprays, breathtaking, but I heard it left a rash.
She walked around sickbay tapping the side of her PADD.
Morgan: Response
Cole: That’s good thinking. It’s just… ::tilts her head, pretending to think:: You didn’t happen to notice any of your staff carrying in a suspicious bag, did you? Or humming ‘We Will Rock You”?
Morgan: Response
Cole: ::leaning in as if to whisper:: Between us, Doctor… Did you lose a bet with the Science department?
Morgan: Response
Cole: Oh, Doctor, just one last thing… those rocks, they wouldn’t happen to match the samples from the geology lab, would they?
Morgan: Response
Cole: It’s funny, people tend to forget we have passive security systems that record everything.
Morgan: Response
