((Primary Sickbay - Deck 7, USS Artemis-A ))
Considering that the previous encounter with CloQ by the Artemis’ crew was not the first time that the senior officers had met the time-obsessed omnipotent maniac, Gila found it frankly irresponsible that there had been done no extensive research on what effects such an encounter - both the rampant time- and dimension jumping, and the enervating effect of the Q’s personality itself - had not been thoroughly studied.
Thusly, she only had loosely approximating research to base her medical assumptions on, but for what that was worth, she was quite certain that the Ensign’s concerns about phantom pains were to be taken seriously.
Sadar: There’s no such thing, Ensign. The body telling you that something hurts is usually significant in one way or the other.
Luckily, her patient seemed to be of a similar mind.
Chevalier: That’s why I stopped by, doctor. Better to know if I - don’t know - somehow bruised ribs or pinched a nerve or if I still have a hole in me.
Sadar: Mmh… How would you characterize the pain? Is it constant? Intermittent? Dull? Sharp?
Ensign Chevalier seemed to need little time to consider this.
Chevalier: It's sharp, but not constant. It comes and goes throughout the day. When it comes, it's like being stabbed. The pain is so intense that I lose my breath and have difficulty standing. However, it subsides after a second or two, and I feel like nothing happened. And suddenly, it comes again. And again. And again. And again, and as unexpectedly as it comes, it disappears.
(((OOC: I’m going to revise Gila’s actions from here on.)))
Frowning, Gila considered this. What seemed to be of the most pressing concern was to establish whether these manifestations of the phantom pains had any correlation to moments that Ensign Chevalier recalled the experience - and thusly the pain could be explained by a trick of the mind - or whether there seemed to be no apparent pattern, at which point she had to broaden her perspective. Time fluctuations in space that the Artemis flew through? CloQ snapped their fingers?
There were a number of plausible explanations, some more outrageous than the others, but as Gila ran a brief respiratory and circulatory scans, just to ensure that there was no problem with the Ensign’s heart rhythm or blood pressure, she nodded.
Sadar: Well, I can start with congratulating you on being completely fit for duty.
Chevalier: Ah, really? And I worried I would end with Division 14… ::laugh::
The Ensign started getting dressed, seemingly content with her diagnoses, when Gila crossed her arms, her brow ridges vibrating as she considered how to better address his concerns.
Sadar: That being said, we do need to properly ascertain when these phantom pains manifest, and how best to combat it. ::small pause:: I think it speaks for itself that I recommend scheduling an appointment with the counselor, first of all, but then, I would also like you to continuously monitor your phantoms. What were you doing just before they manifested? What time was it? Ideally, we’d want a predictable pattern to show itself.
Chevalier: Ou, yes doctor. I will do.
Pliant patients. Her favorite kind.
Sadar: ::accesses a PADD:: I suggest we schedule another appointment in a week or two, and then we can compare notes on what you’ve noted about the regularity of your phantom pains, and any possible pattern you may have noted. And if you had a counselor write their observations into your log before then, it would be preferable.
Chevalier: Response
Satisfied with her diagnoses and their shared plan of attack against these phantom pains that the Ensign was combatting, Gila put on her most professional demeanor, nodding.
Sadar: Anything else, Ensign?
Chevalier: Response
Sadar: Excellent. Thank you for the update on the biobeds. Until next time.
Watching as the Ensign left the Sickbay, Gila sighed. The effects of their little CloQ-incident was going to be felt by this crew for a while, she suspected. Which reminded her… She looked down at the PADD in her hands, and her unfinished request for a counselor’s appointment.
She’d better follow through on that promise she’d made with the Lieutenant Commander soon...
