She was late again. As Breys rushed down the halls she couldn’t help but wonder if every important training on the holodeck would start this way. First her finals, now this. She sprinted past several concerned onlookers, dove under a group of chatty engineers, and managed to sidestep disturbing a pack of senior staff.

It felt like the tactical training had already started.

Breys panted as she was a dozen steps from the holodeck doors. She took those steps to gather herself, and managed to walk through the arch with a whole two minutes til the official start time.

As with almost any time she was assigned to a superior officer, Breys had done some basic research. Lt. Storm was supposed to be fairly easy to get along with. That was the most important detail to check off. Breys also knew that Storm transferred from the Scimitar less than a year ago, though the why seemed like a question for a distant day when they knew each other much better.

She stopped daydreaming, Lt. Storm was looking directly at Breys with stark black eyes. Stark black eyes surrounded by almost darker hair. That was the first time Breys noticed any of this.

Storm:  Ensign Breys?

Breys went to attention.

Breys: Sir!

Storm:  I’m Lieutenant Alex Storm, one of the Artemis’s Tactical Officers, rock climber extraordinaire, and your evaluator for the day.

Lt. Storm tucked the PADD under her arm.

As Breys realized the Lieutenant wasn’t going to open by drilling her, she relaxed slightly.

Breys: Thank you sir, I wanted to do better after I scraped by in the academy. I'd rather not fire a phaser shot, but I’d also rather not miss a phaser shot.

Storm:  Have you already checked in with medical since you’ve come aboard?  I would assume so, since you were on the Karnack with us.

Breys looked down. She knew that this wasn't the proper outcome, but at the time she didn't want to add to an already busy team.

Breys:  I spoke with medical some, but they were so preoccupied with the problems from Callis that I barely got a once over otherwise.

Storm:  I don’t see it attached to your file.  I just wanted to make sure that you’ve been cleared by medical before our little exercise today…in case we end up climbing a rock wall somewhere along the way.

Storm began tapping the PADD on her leg. Despite having been unsure if that was a good or bad sign, Breys was incredibly concerned. Tapping famously caused anxiety in Ensigns everywhere.

Breys: It has to be somewhere, I got the scan, I’ve been working shifts for weeks.

The anxiety crawled its way visibly up D’tin’s spine.

Storm: Response

Breys: What about other new Ensigns?  Maybe my physical got mixed with theirs?

Storm: Response

Breys: I’m sorry sir I don’t know if we’re going to find that check up.

Storm: Response

Breys: Wait! Maybe try looking for the scan of my brain files? I bet you my physical is in a subfolder of that.

Storm: Response
