With the crew officially on shore leave, it meant
that many of the officers had left the ship to pursue side projects or partake
in leisure. With fewer minions to manage, this left room for the commanding
officer of the Artemis to catch up on menial tasks that pile up over time
– reevaluating the duty shift schedules, looking over the requisition requests,
and considering personnel transfers. Regarding the last item, that often meant considering
both those leaving, but also those arriving, and in the occasional rare
instance, the opportunity to welcome back.
Perched behind her desk, she sat up taller when the door chime rang.
MacKenzie: Come in!
The doors swished open revealing a lieutenant in operations gold. This wasn’t just
the standard officer reporting for duty, the was their new Chief of Operations.
But, beyond that, it was an officer who’d served on the Artemis before. Vailani
Zoyara had spent several months on the Artemis after graduating from the
Academy, then transferring to the Ronin and ascending through the ranks
before finding her way back.
Vailani: Captain, it's good to see you outside
of a Borg cube.
Addison’s eyes widened slightly. They had crossed paths more recently – though the
events of the Frontier Day were ones she’d rather leave in the past. She gestured
for the Bajoran woman to have a seat in one of the chairs opposite.
MacKenzie: Welcome back, Lieutenant. How does it feel to be back?
Vailani: I'm eager to get started. I reviewed
the most recent mission reports en route here from the Alpha Isles so I'm just
about up to speed.
MacKenzie: I assume you remember where everything is?
Vailani: Response
MacKenzie offered a smirk and a slight nod.
MacKenzie: Hopefully things are a little less exciting around
here than the last time we ran into one another…
Vailani: Response
Addison passed over a PADD.
MacKenzie: There are some new faces in the department, and several that
have left since you were last aboard.
Vailani: Response
MacKenzie: I’m curious… How do you feel about your ability to lead those
who may have been in the department longer than you but not progressed through
the ranks as fast as you have?
Vailani: Response
Addison raised an eyebrow.
MacKenzie: Even those who felt they may have been overlooked for this
job?
Vailani: Response
