MacKenzie wasn’t one to beat around the bush, but neither was Lyara so she responded to her CO’s blunt question with complete honesty.

Lyara: Well, to be honest. I just didn’t see the station life working out for me personally. Being in one spot didn’t sound as fulfilling as traveling across a whole region to help others. ::Taking a small sip of her drink:: So when I saw the form to transfer I took the chance.

MacKenzie: Fair. And how are you finding the Borderlands so far?

Lyara: They’re definitely an interesting area. No lack of interesting things to be found.

MacKenzie: At this point, I’ve spent the majority of my time in the Borderlands more than any other campaign regions. It definitely has a lot to keep you on your toes.

Alroyo took a sip of her drink, she barely spent any time in the Borderlands and she had an injury to back it up. She didn’t know if fun was the word she’d use to describe it, but she couldn’t think of another word.

Lyara: Your ship is at least very friendly. Everyone I’ve met so far has been really nice. ::Beat:: Hell, Salkath practically saved my life on Ura Nateos III.

MacKenzie: Well, that mission was a mess for a lot of reasons. I can tell you one thing, though – I likely wouldn’t have been able to carry you all that way.

He had carried her for what felt like kilometers when he only knew her by a name and rank. It was the logical thing to do in that case but it still felt really nice to have an officer go that quite literal, extra mile for her. The sense of community she felt on the ship from a handful of people she barely knew, along with one good friend, helped her adjust to being so far from home.

Lyara: It’s definitely helped with adjusting to being on a ship. I’ve never been this far from Bajor before.

Yes, she had traveled to Earth but it was a second home to her as her step father grew up there. And that was still somewhat in the alpha quadrant. She was on the other side of the Federation from Bajor which was still a little hard to believe for her.

MacKenzie: One of the benefits of being in Starfleet is that you literally have the galaxy at your fingertips. I do believe that one of the benefits of serving on a starship as opposed to a station or colony is that you get to see a lot.

Lyara: I did join to see strange new worlds and new civilizations. But of course the ship crew is a great plus too.

MacKenzie nodded her head slightly.

MacKenzie: I’m glad that the crew has been welcoming so far. (beat) ::gesturing to the slice:: And that the pizza meets your approval.

Alroyo smiled as she looked to the slice then back to her captain.

Lyara: And I’m glad to be a part of your crew and have this great pizza. ::She motioned to the wings:: Are the wings still the best in the galaxy?

She took another bite, sorely missing the spice. Maybe she could get some hot sauce for it. It wouldn’t be as spicy as she liked, but it’d work.

MacKenzie: Response

Lyara: Maybe next time I come I’ll have to order them. I can see why this place is a favorite of your crew.

Alroyo looked around the bar and admired that even though there were hundreds of others that looked similar to it, it still stood out from the rest.

MacKenzie: Response

Lyara: I actually learned while reading about the station that the woman this very pub is named after was known as “The Tart With a Cart”. I don’t know why they named her after a pastry. Maybe she was a baker?

She shrugged, as the slang term had no meaning to her Bajoran ears.
