Ensign Jaran Jira - The Ferengi Have No Word For Crisp

Jira knew that there would be a lot of rain. It was almost a joke that there was a lot of rain on Ferenginar, but this was no joke. Apparently this one was oolmering, according to the weather display hovering near the entrance. Jira hadn't even known that was an option when they first walked into the large building. It wasn't even the worst it got!
They thought about why they were even here right now, munching on the dearly-purchased soggy sandwich of... something they probably didn't want to think too hard about. Ostensibly, they'd come here to explore what amounted to a temple for these people. Did that make the hawkers and gougers the equivalent of priests? Or are they lay people, expressing their faith? Worth more study. Which, they supposed, is why they were here.
They took another squishy bite as they walked, and nearly bumped into a face they'd seen a time or two now.
Storm: Ensign..Jaran?
Jaran: Yes, Lieutenant. You are... Lt. Storm, sir?
They thought that was right.
Storm: Alex, when we’re not on duty. I don’t think we’ve officially met…
Alex stuck out a dripping hand and Jira took it with their non-sandwich hand.
Jaran: And I'm Jira. A pleasure.
Storm: It’s nice to officially meet you. What brings you down to this rain-filled planet?
Jaran: Likewise, of course! And I'm here on a pilgrimage, I guess you could say. ::holding up their sandwich:: All I've found is this, though.
Storm: Response
Well, a pilgrimage seemed to be the best way to describe it, at least. Jira could understand why Alex might be confused.
Jaran: ::wry laugh:: Yeah, I can understand that. But really, we're standing on what is essentially consecrated ground for Ferengi right now. And I'm determined to understand it.
Storm: Response
Jaran: You're not wrong, you know. Anyway, what about you? What has you in the middle of this bustle? You don't seem the type to go on a shopping spree.
What they really meant is "why are you here when you have all that behind your eyes," but that would have been a step too far.
