((Sickbay, USS Artemis-A))
Growing up Andorian around a mix of species, his childhood had been a series of painful lessons learned; often physically painful for others and emotionally painful for him. As he grew, so did his Andorian strength. As he grew, so did his turbulence of his Andorian emotions. In the beginning, even well-meaning play could result in playmates sent sprawling wildly towards the nearest bulkhead. He would run to jefferies tubes to hide; the shrill shriek of parental outrage echoing about his antennae. Gradually, he learned to measure his strength to the measure of those with whom he played.
His emotions took a little longer. His journey to Risa from Starbase 12, had been aboard a crumbling old civilian transport of odd design and questionable upkeep. It was on the second night, two Andorian Imperial Guardsmen had decided to make a sport of him.
The lights of the sickbay seemed brighter than most of those on board the ship. There was a odd absence of smell. A trio stood next to one of the biobeds.
Tho’Bi: :: stood to attention with his eyes fixed in front of him :: An altercation with two Andorian Imperial Guards. They attempted to goad me into a fight by insulting my parents. I lost my temper and shoved one of them. The second of the two guards must have already had a Chaka blade to hand. :: looks at MacKenzie :: I take full responsibility for the incident and apologize. I let the uniform down :: gaze returns to in front of him ::
The Betazoid doctor remained quiet, but glanced over at the captain. The captain listened intently. The ensign made little attempt to read her reaction. He would know soon enough.
MacKenzie: I see… Looks like Dr. Adea has done impeccable work repairing the wound, as usual.
Tho’Bi: Yes, Captain. :: turns to Adea :: Thank you, Doctor. :: gaze returns to in front of him ::
There was, of course, more to the story. The seemingly effortless way in which the captain of the civilian transport rendered the two experienced fighters of the Imperial Guard unconscious; and that it had not been the civilian captain, but an Andorian Commander who, having beamed on board, upon their arrival at Risa, made financial restitution for the infraction. Not to mention the oddity that was the ship’s layout.
But in this moment, all those events seemed irrelevant to the young ensign. He had made the mistake. It was his conduct that was of issue; not the peculiarities of the civilian transport, crew and activities, therein. He prepared himself for a punishment detail, at the very least.
The doctor switched off the dermal re-generator.
Adea: You’re too kind, Captain. But thank you. And you’re welcome, Ensign.
MacKenzie: I see Sickbay remains in good hands.
The young ensign stood in a state of suspended animation waiting to hear his fate.
Adea: Have you had time to have a tour of the ship, yet Ensign?
The young ensign had barely left the transport room when his Padd ordered him to sickbay.
Tho’Bi: No, Sir. I beamed up and came here straight.
MacKenzie: ::nodding:: Probably the right decision. Do you have your orders somewhere?
Adea: Response
The Andorian swiveled around on his heels and scooped up the Padd he had left sitting on the Biobed behind him. He handed it to the Captain. His antennae twitched to the various bips and thumps of the sickbay, as he watched the Captain scan down the Padd display.
MacKenzie: Well it seems everything is in order here… ::handing the PADD to Adea:: I suppose you can sign off on your portion of this.
Adea: Response
Tho’Bi: ::nods at Adea:: Thank you, Doctor. ::nods at MacKenzie:: Thank you, Captain.
MacKenzie offered a friendly smile.
MacKenzie: Well, with that business taken care of, tell me a little bit about yourself. How did you find yourself to the Artemis?
He had heard so many stories while at the Academy. Cadets from outside the Federation, there by the grace of scholarships and hard grind. Children of two or more worlds. His was so mundane in contrast; in the words of the Imperial Guardsmen, he was a ‘Starfleet Brat’.
Tho’Bi: My parents were both engineers in Starfleet. I grew up on ships and stations. Skies are nice, but I prefer Jefferies Tubes :: smiles ::
The young ensign waited to see if his joke would land. They never did, but maybe today…
Adea/MacKenzie: Responses
