(( Operations Centre, Deck 5, USS Artemis-A ))

Zoyara mostly enjoyed it when she was able to work. Usually this is best in quiet contemplation but now that she was Chief that luxury would be rare. It wasn't that she hated working with others, it was more that they always just … got in the way. Of course this wasn't always the case but in her experience it was just more efficient to just get jobs done.

All fair and well when it was just Commander Munro on the Ronin that would send her to realign the array, or organise shore leave disembarkment or reprogramme the Holodeck parameters. Tasks that she was more than capable of doing on her own.

Overseeing the operations of an entire starship was simply not something she could do on her own. As much as she'd love to be able to try.

In the interests of working with others she had cornered the first operations officer she saw; JG and he seemed helpful. A good sign, she enjoyed it when they were agreeable and compliant.

So she decided to broach her main concern with him.

Vailani: :: nods :: My understanding that the Chief engineer is on leave? Do we have any outstanding engineering jobs that have impacted our task lists?

Bergmen: Yes, Commander Salkath took some personal time when we arrived at Risa. Unfortunately, I don't know when he will return; that’s a bit beyond my pay grade. But engineers don't stay idle. Aside from the usual improvements to the warp core and secondary energy systems, we recently received a request for a spare shuttle computer core for something they referred to as… a portable computer core? Yes, that one. :: points on the console screen on file header::

Zoyara looked at the portable computer core, and reviewed the details and noted Gila’s name on the request order. This may be a good reason to spend some time with her friend. Doing what they both loved most: work.

Bergmen: Mentioning individual projects, ma’am, did you hear about project FORT?

She turned to face the officer, finally taking in his composure. He looked young although she knew enough about the variety of species to not take that for granted. There was beings that existed that resembled children but in actuality they were elders.

Vailani: I'm not familiar with this?

Bergmen: Focused Operation Refit. Refit of OPS facilities and systems on Luna-class starships. Artemis was supposed to be upgraded last year, but… you know… things fell through the cracks. I am now working on a study of requirements and possible improvements to the original FORT project. I would like to begin the refit now since we still have time before Artemis leaves Risa.

Bergmen lifted the PADD he held and gave it to Lieutenant Vailani. She reviewed the PADD carefully scrolling down. Her hazel green eyes then looked to the officer.

Vailani: I'm going to have to review this.

Bergmen: Of course, there is still some time, so please review and let me know your thoughts. ::smiles::

The smile was neither desired or appreciated therefore it was met with a dismissive scowl.

Vailani: Lieutenant, I'm going to need a use case and some evidence of how exactly this … refit will increase our efficiencies, communication and our distribution of resources throughout the ship. You have much of the data here but I don't see how it would translate to the Artemis? It's a large undertaking and I need to see how it's beneficial to our ship.

Bergmen: Response

With that said she handed the PADD back to him and returned to a standing position, she took a look around and thought that a refit might be a good idea. Of course the version of refit would be hers - and the command staff - to decide upon.

Vailani: I served on the Artemis before but it's been a while since I've had a proper look. You can share your ideas with me while we take a tour of the operations facilities?

Bergmen: Response

She nodded and before he could determine the first stop she moved forward. She had intended to visit her office but there was one place that was held in the highest regard on any ship to Zoyara.

The computer core. If engineering is the heart of a starship, then the core is the true brain of the ship.

A door opened up to the core from the operations centre. As energy flowed into it, the core hummed as if taking a breath and lights blinked. In harmonious unison, millions of commands were being processed at any given microsecond.

oO Hello Artemis Oo

She was beautiful. Zoyara balanced herself on the railing and looked below. The core made various sounds as gears shifted. Shrill beeps and chirps filled the room.

Vailani: It sounds like music.

Bergmen: Response
