(( Sickbay – Deck 7, USS Artemis ))
With the immediate fallout from the Frontier Day disaster leveling
a little bit, the crew of the Artemis was able to get back into a
routine – as much of a routine as they could – of tending to the wounded,
rebuilding the ship, and starting rebuilding Earth Spacedock and the cities
damaged by the Borg. Addison made it a point to tour the ship at the end of
each day to see how repairs were going on the Artemis, and after reading
the reports from the other ships of the fleet, particularly the Kitty Hawk,
she wanted to make a point of checking in with the officers she’d sent to serve
over there once things weren’t so… fresh.
And so, she found herself in Sickbay.
MacKenzie: Doctor Sadar.
She’d clearly startled the Mizarian doctor – the poor woman nearly dropped the
two PADDs in her hand when she turned around at break-neck speed, and the subsequently
horrified look on her face and snap to attention made Addison wonder if she
shouldn’t check Gila for any broken bones. In the process, several other PADDs
went crashing to the floor and, as if on cue, the doctor’s fingers dropped to
the obsidian band.
Sadar: C-Captain! What brings you here? ::clumsily picks up PADDs::
Uhh, Commander Adea isn’t in currently? ::widens eyes:: O-Or did you make an
appointment? I-I’m so sorry, I’ll fetch-
Addison held up her hands to show her state of disarmament.
MacKenzie: I’m not here for any other reason than to see how you are.
The poor Mizarian froze.
Sadar: How... I am, Sir?
She took a breath and blinked a few times, letting her guard down and allowing
her face to show genuine concern.
MacKenzie: Well, I read what happened on the Kitty Hawk…
Gila’s posture and body language changed immediately. Addison’s eyes narrowed
slightly as she saw the Mizarian start chewing the inside of her cheek. The
tick was new for the Gila, from what Addison could remember, but it was clearly
a sign that the woman had a lot to unpack.
Sadar: Wh-Wh-Wh... ::forced deep breaths:: Uhh... I-I... It was
a... It was rough, Sir. As I’m sure it was for everyone... B-But all things
considered, I, uhh... I-I’m handling it as best I can.
MacKenzie: You’re not absolved from seeing a counselor. No one is, so
don’t put it off.
Sadar: D-Don’t worry, Sir. This is a counseling appointment I won’t run
from... ::brief pause: As soon as I’m done with work.
MacKenzie: I thought things on board were relatively taken care of?
Sadar: Oh, uhh, no Sir... I’m assisting crisis response efforts on
Earth, and I want to make sure that we’ve reached a point of ‘treading water’
before I come back on board full-time. ::looks at the PADDs:: This is, uhh...
Addison pointed at one of the PADDs on the floor and offered a mischievous
smirk.
MacKenzie: Starflirt? On the quest for galactic love after facing mortal
doom?
Sadar: Response
She rolled her eyes as she picked up the PADD.
MacKenzie: You’ve got to relax a little. You’re wound so tight I’m
afraid your head might just pop off.
The truth was, they were all wound tight. Gila, however, lived in a perpetual
state of clenched butthole.
Sadar: Response
MacKenzie: What do you do when you’re not working? Like, for fun.
Sadar: Response
Her eyes narrowed.
MacKenzie: Yes, fun, Gila…
Sadar: Response
Tag, and TBC!
