(( Command Center - Grunden Base Camp, Kydon ))
The dust had settled. The fires had burnt out. Large parties of Grunden and Kobyar soldiers had gathered together in celebration. But the war had not been won.
Countless innocent lives had been stolen. The damage had been inflicted and now the people were left to pick up the pieces. Houses needed to be rebuilt, cities and towns would take years to recover. The war had not been won.
Kexxin’s teams were the best of the best, and sent out to deal with the small groups of insurgents that continued to pop up. Thankfully they seemed to be few and far between. He was relieved to find out the Starfleet crew all had made it back to their ship. His gratitude was as strong, but knew he could never repay Captain MacKenzie and her crew for their service. They were a brilliant bunch— although some were arguably a bit strange— but brilliant nonetheless.
He tiredly made his way to his tent. His footfalls, hard on the dirt floor as he looked at his small collection of belongings. He grabbed his rucksack and began to neatly tuck everything away- just as he had been trained to do. A quiet shuffle came from the open flap behind him.
Soldier: General Kexxin. ::Saluting:: Good to see you back in one piece sir.
Now facing the young Grunden, Kexxin smiled and shook his head.
Kexxin: At ease Kizten. No need for any more formalities here anymore.
Kizten: What do you mean sir?
The soldier relented and relaxed his posture.
Kexxin: Well, ::tucking in a few more things in the bag:: I’m retiring. The Grunden forces are already searching for a suitable replacement.
The bit he didn’t feel the need to share was that he told Meera to stick the job where the sun didn’t shine and he would be vacating the command post effective immediately.
Kizten: It’s a shame to see you go. ::lowering his head in respect:: Thank you for your service.
His head lowered back momentarily before pulling at the buckles on the sides of his tactical vest.
Kexxin: I guess I won’t be needing this anymore.
While the vest itself wasn’t particularly heavy, the emotional weight it carried felt immense. A burden of years spent on such a useless war, fell off his shoulders as he lifted the vest over his head.
The blood stained material told a story, one that he was ready to close the book on. Gently he placed it in the rucksack and straightened himself out. His eyes locked with the young, white furred man.
The soldier smiled in a way that only showed his top teeth before raising his rifle and pointing it at the General.
Kexxin did not move. He did not panic. His will to fight had been left back in the Kobyar Capital Building.
Kizten: This is for Naru.
Kexxin’s eyes closed, as he heard the squeeze of the trigger.
A single shot struck him in the chest.
End for Kexxin
