(( Primary Sickbay – Deck 7, USS Artemis-A ))

It felt good to be back in the light bustle of sickbay. Counseling was a very solitary position, they’d found, ironically enough. There wasn’t the same sort of community that formed in a medical setting, a bond over the physical exhaustion that sometimes came with the job, or chatter over shared laboratory benches. And the more that she could socialize and get to know her Starfleet colleagues, (hopefully) the better for relations between them and the Kobali, Vhysa’lia presumed.

And what better time to start integrating herself into the department than now? With all the administrative work completed, and the new rank lozenge on their uniform, Vhysa’lia finally had a moment of time to breathe. And meet the coworkers. Of which there were, delightfully, many.

One at a time seemed the most likely to provide the best results - allowing her the chance to make a good, and personalized first impression. It had to go better than it did with Lt. Cmdr. Munroe, but that was a fluke, of course. She’d seemed… dangerously interested in their kyn’steya, but the nerves that they’d felt had faded as the time passed since their meeting.

There - one of the other medical staff was off on his lonesome, working on some project or another, looking like he wouldn’t terribly mind a minor distraction, she hoped. Vhysa’lia sidled up to him, giving him a slight tap on the shoulder as she peered over to look at whatever he was working on, smiling brightly.

Vhysa’lia: ::interrupting:: And what might you be working on over here?

Bancroft: Response

Their smile was already so wide, it seemed impossible for it to get any bigger, but it did marginally when he explained exactly what he was doing. To some, the mundane work in a sickbay was boring and banal compared to the more exciting emergencies like “I accidentally shot myself in the thigh testing a new phaser holster” or “a mine blew up my leg and I need a new one, ASAP”, but Vhysa’lia was eager to dive into all the different kinds of work that doctors aboard a starship faced.

Vhysa’lia: Oh, that’s fantastic. ::holding out her hand to shake, with a slightly apologetic laugh:: Where are my manners? My name’s Vhysa’lia, and yours is…?

Bancroft: Response

Vhysa’lia: It is a pleasure, Dr. Bancroft. ::slight pause, looking around and taking the sights of sickbay in:: It looks like we’re both somewhat new here together - you, to the Artemis, and me to this department.

They’d seen his name pop up in the list of new transfers to the ship a while ago, while looking at the roster of potential new patients. And if she hadn’t seen him there, she’d still have guessed the same - it was a fairly reasonable assumption that an ensign was at least a little new to the ship.

Bancroft: Response

Vhysa’lia: Counseling just wasn’t the thing for me, I wanted to be back doing something more… hands on. I’ve missed it! ::huge grin:: But enough about me, how are you liking the Artemis? ::gesturing to his work:: You’re certainly fitting in already, the whole ship seems to be full of… “work-a-holics”, I think is the phrase?

Now, she had absolutely no way of knowing if Ens. Bancroft was a “work-a-holic” like she was implying, but through her time talking to the various patients she’d had… there certainly had been a trend amongst some of the officers and enlisted posted to the ship. A good deal of them could use a bit of healthy distraction from their duties every once in a while…

And yes, she was a bit of a hypocrite about that too, being someone who absolutely loved her work… but she also knew how to relax, so Vhysa’lia definitely counted herself as not part of the problem.
